SITXWHS004 Establish and maintain a work health and safety system


· This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to incorporate safe work practices into all workplace activities. It requires the ability to follow predetermined health, safety and security procedures and to participate in organisational work health and safety management practices.


This unit applies to all tourism, travel, hospitality and event sectors and to any small, medium or large organisation.

 2) A work health and safety management system is used to help organisations plan and put into place policies and procedures to improve the health and safety of employees at work. What are the needs of your organisation?
The organisation’s safety and health policy must be known to everyone in the organization and this includes, the underlying philosophy and the structure and systems used for implementing it. This includes the employees, who must be aware of the systems related to them to understand relevant risks and how to handle them (Geldart, Smith, Shannon, & Lohfeld, 2010).
The training needs of my organization can be divided into- Management needs and non-management needs.
Management needs of the company include: Communication skills, leadership skills, safety and health management, problem-solving skills, training and coaching skills, understanding risks, knowledge of relevant legislation and appropriate methods of control and risk assessment, planning, measuring, reviewing, and auditing procedures of the organization.
Non-management needs include: knowledge of safety and health principles of the organization, through knowledge of the safety and health arrangements in relation to their jobs, communication and problem-solving skills.
