Student will research and write a 5-page case study of a government not covered in class.Paper should include discussion of the principal ideologies of the state in question, its governmental structure, and the most important elements of its recent politics.This paper should deal with a contemporary case, not a historical one, although obviously historical analysis may be necessary to make sense of the current situation.

Students should identify and organize information about the government and contemporary politics of their case.

Students should explore the unique nature of the political and governmental system of the country and explore why these elements were chosen and not others.

Students should analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the policies of the government of their case and analyze the principal political issues.

Student should draw comparisons with their case to others both similar and different.

Apply a strategy for finding information of your topic. Use databases, indexes, and the library catalog to find information on your topic. Be creative in exploring the other references availablethrough the HCC library.

Don’t just accept the first sources you come upon. Evaluate your sources. Are they reputable? Are they peer-reviewed? Are they produced by people or organizations advancing particular viewpoints or positions? That doesn’t mean you can’t use them, but you should be aware of and take into consideration any bias they contain.

The Movimento Cinque Stelle (Five-Star Movement, M5S) which was founded only four years earlier got the 25% of votes in the nation election of Italy in 2013. As a result, it became the most voted party. Interpretations and analyses have been shared between the people, who emphasize the way M5S’s suggestions are similar to the set of ideals related with social movements and the Left and those who take M5S as one of several adherents of the family of European populism. In European politics at the significant on-going trends, the discussion on the M5S perfectly fits into the circumstance.
