Students will develop an online portfolio of images and stills, academic articles, and personal reflections ontwochosen films in the course (c. 1000 words). The portfolio should include the following:



  • 2 images that encapsulate a key theme or idea explored in each film (4 images in total);

  • 2 academic articles (online or print) that focus on each filmPLUSa 200-word synopsis of


each article (c. 400 words)



  • a 600-word personal reflection comprising:

    • your personal thoughts about both films.

    • the strong and weak points in both films.

    • a scene in one film you particular enjoyed, and why.

    • a character you particularly enjoyed on one film, and why.

Amelie is a French film that is directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet which released in the year of 2001. It is a film that incorporates the use of music to convey the emotions to th
e audience. Set in the Paris, the city of love, Amelie is a lonely girl who lives in the world of magical realism. Several critics have put forward their views that the film is a modern version of a fairy tale but the plot does not contain any supernatural elements. Amelie believes in making every person around her happy (Café Des 2 Moulins, 2015). Though the entire film is in French, even the non-French audience can experience the emotions with the help of the great music score and sounds. There is joyous music played when the Amelie is able to create trouble for the wicked shopkeeper who always used to demean his assistant in front of the people.
Even when Amelie finally meets Nino at the end, the audience is able to fell that joy and happiness. Also when the glassman is able to find out the missing piece in his masterpiece, the audience can`t help but smile with the character. Small incidents are shown in the film like Amelie dipping her hand in a bag full of grains in the grocery shop, bring joy both to Amelie and the viewers as well.
