What is Passive Building Design?
Buildings known as "Passive Houses"
offer a comfortable internal environment with a very low heating and cooling demand. The maximum daily average heating and cooling loads are often less than 10 W/m2, and the annual usable energy demands are typically in the range of 15 kW h. The Passive House standard was first developed in Germany. In this study, we utilise hygrothermal dynamic simulation to show that residential Passive Houses can be built in all significant temperate regions worldwide (Omrany et al., 2016).
In order to develop buildings that attain architectural quality while requiring less energy-intensive equipment to offer comfort and health, contemporary passive design depends on knowing climate and taking advantage of siting, form, detailing, and construction components. Energy-saving techniques allow for equipment downsizing, shortened operation periods and seasons, shorter duct lengths, and in some circumstances, complete equipment elimination (Amine, Rachid & Miloud, 2018).
