Task:  Your task for this assessment is to write a written report for a diverse range of audiences on the genetic disorder “Galactosemia- A genetic disorder of carbohydrate metabolism”. In this article you should inform the reader about the disease, its prevalence, genetic mutation, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and nutritional management. The rubric outlines the specific assessment criteria that will be a useful guide to your work.


Word limit: 1500 words (minimum 1500 and maximum 1595), excluding references


Marks: This assignment accounts for 30% of total marks.

This assignment will be completed in two parts:
Part 1: Submission of a draft plan

Students are expected to prepare a plan for the assignment and outline the structure, headings and specific content in dot points on the given topic. The aim of the draft plan is to prepare some basic skeleton for the main assignment. An example of a draft plan has been provided on CloudDeakin. The draft plan is due for submission in trimester week 6 on 23rd August 2017 by 11.59 pm. This plan will account for approx. 5% of your assignment marks.


Part 2: Submission of final assignment

In weeks 7 and 8 Students will review, restructure if necessary, and expand their own draft plan to produce a written report on the above mentioned topic. The final assignment should be 1500 words and is due in week 9 of the trimester (14th September 2017 by 11.59 pm). An example of the final draft has been provided on CloudDeakin site.
