Science proves the existence and evolution of a “Race” but is still unable to prove the origin and existence of “Racism”.
Introduction
Racism has been seen as a social crime that has three different types — “personally mediated”, “Internalized”, and “institutionalized” (Smedley and Smedley). Here, the essay proves “Institutional racism” as a result of persistent negative stereotypes.
1. Defining Institutional Racism
Science proves the existence and evolution of a “Race” but is still unable to prove the origin and existence of “Racism”. Superiority and inferiority existed among all the species on this planet but only human race defined this based on cast, color, religion, ethnicity and physical appearance. As stated by Baldwin, historians presented a data according to which between 16th to 18th centuries, Race was just an idea that categorizes term similar to terms like, type, kind, sort, breed etc. but by the revolutionary era of 18th-century race signified a social category of Indians, Blacks and Whites. Race and Racism are so entwined concepts that it is difficult to define them as separate entities. Yet, race is a socially constructed weapon, categorizing people based on visual differences (Richardson and Norris). This categorization is so unsteady and fluid that it reflects their social rather than physical basis. However, since these play a major role in structuring our modern society, this structuring of shapes is what we refer to as “Institutional Racism”.
2. Three Effects of Institutional Racism
Somewhere, there is a belief system that “Mine is stronger than yours” and the people of the similar ethnic group supporting it, is the root of institutional racism, which results in the structuring of benefits for the group with power. It is a combined...
