The most important aspect of this assignment is to identify a solid research question, which also means justifying the question from previous research. This will save you time in the long run. If the proposal brief is well-designed it will be an outline of the full proposal for the thesis to follow. You are required to submit a written Research Proposal Brief in academic format (800-1000 words) and give an oral presentation (5-10 minutes) about your research proposal. This assessment is worth 10% of your marks for SBM1300 and forms the basis of the Research Proposal due in week 10 and worth 40% of your marks for SBM1300 and your Research Proposal Presentation due week 12 and worth 20% of your marks for SBM1300. Students develop the Research Proposal across the semester incorporating (a) feedback on the Research Proposal Brief; (b) feedback from the Feasibility analysis (due week 5 and worth 10% of your marks for SBM1300); (c) learnings from your classes, discussions, feedback and readings during the semester. For the Research Proposal Brief you need to prepare an outline of your proposed research topic and research plan for investigating the topic using the template for the structure below. The document should be between 800 and 1000 words in length (excluding project title and references). The recommended lengths of each section are approximate, and will vary depending on the research question you are proposing to investigate and the methodology you are proposing to use in your research proposal. 1. Project Title
“A feasibility study of using plastic waste in road construction systems”
2. Research Overview and Justification
Plastic waste is increasing day by day and that is one thing that is very difficult to decompose and remains on the surface of earth for centuries. These types of plastics are creating waste for the environment and that is a serious threat for the environment. However, different nations and construction companies are now adopting methods to use these waste materials in to use and they are using it for the road construction. The necessary for this research proposal was needed as to understand the methods and ways to control the increase in waste disposal. It is also very important to make sure to properly utilize the waste plastic and make it use for the road construction process. The article will review and analyse the previous research papers and analyse the effectiveness and flaws, if any that will be discussed. Further, solutions will be proposed.
3. Condensed Literature Review
Taking responsibility to protect the environment by utilizing the waste particularly plastic waste in productive use is the current trend the companies are adopting. As mentioned by Desai and Attar (2019), the construction process along with the manufacturing process are contributing to a huge amount of wastage on daily basis. This wastage is currently being dumped into the outskirts land of the cities. However there is shortage of land is there which is compelling to think alternatives and hence the usage of plastic waste is being used in different construction process mainly the road constructions. Usman et al. (2018) have discussed that wooden and plastic waste are used and mixed with the mixture during production of cement.
This is hardening the cement and it is proven very good for the roads sustainability. As supported by Nikolic, Mikic and Naunovic (2017), the usage of waste products in a productive way is solving many problems. At first, the disposable of the...
