The assignment covers a critical review of an article by Ay, Karakaya and Yilmaz (2015). The title of article is “Relations between Self - Leadership and Critical Thinking Skills”. The purpose of the essay is to find the relationship between the leadership skills and the thinking skills of a person. In this assignment, the motive is to analyse the essay and its perspective critically. Various questions that arise in mind of a person before reading the essay is tried to answered in this assignment. The main scope of this essay is in the employee development for the organisation.
The scope is beautifully described and thus it should be discussed. The structure of essay is nice as it starts with the introduction and then describes the definitions and type of the two skills, which is necessary. It is because any research and outcome should be discussed when its main theory is known. Then the research section is described and all the major discussions of the outcome are done, which is appropriate. Thus, we will know about the essay in this assignment briefly and all critical analysis and the Critical evaluation is described to ensure the worth of the essay.
Critical Analysis
The essay is meant to find the relationship between the self - leadership skills and the critical thinking skills of students so that they can work in the organisations in future with more strength and confidence. It says that the students of university have more self - leadership skills than critical thinking skills. It is because the students manage to do their tasks by managing themselves according to the situation they face but they do not think critically much. Thus, there is a moderate level of critical thinking skills of university students (Breevaart, Bakker, Demerouti & Derks, 2016). There is a need of understanding the relationship and importance of both self - leadership skills and critical thinking skills.
Moreover, the description of the two skills is provided with their types to have a deep understanding of the skills. First, the self - leadership skills are defined, which tells us that the self - leadership is slightly different from self - management. It is the leadership skills for themselves that makes one to do the specific task and make others to do the same. Self - leadership revolves around the upgrading of skills in ourselves by experiences gained with time (Banks, McCauley, Gardner & Guler, 2016). There are three types of self - leadership skills, on which it is based on - Behavior-Focused Strategies, Natural Reward Strategies and Developing Constructive Thinking Patterns.
The Behavior Focused Strategies are specially related to the behavior of a person (employee) in an organisation. There are many situation, which individuals have to face in the corporate world. How a person behaves with the situation, they face is important. One should be always positive towards any type of situation because only the positive attitude can work and bring you out from the difficult situations (Zacher, Robinson & Rosing, 2016).
