Introduction
Hospitality is a highly competitive industry which continuously tries to innovate itself to keep
up with the business world. Recently, in the era of digitalisation, hotels and hospitality services are trying to upgrade their check-in systems with mobile phones which will also work as the door key. This will help the industry to keep up the business in the high-end of the market and gain the trust of the customers. Creating a trust with the customers is an important aspect of business and this technical innovation will increase the trust between the hospitality workers and the visitors. The technology required to bring such innovation will be discussed below.
Literature Review
As mentioned by Kapiki (2021), safety and security are the main issue faced by the customer which will be solved with such digital technology of checking in. guests staying in the hotels could keep their safety in their own hands by using their own mobile phones as door key and other security systems such as bookings, room-services and check outs. Special services such as conducting birthdays, anniversaries, marriages, baby showers or bachelor parties can be pre-arranged with the help of one click in the mobile.
To keep oneself upgraded in this competitive market, one must take innovative ways to gain customers. As stated by Torres (2018), several new facilities are given by the hotels such as soft pillows, extra towels, lower rates and comfortable ambience, which can be pre-booked through mobile applications. Moreover this can be used by various age group people with different socio-economic background.
According to Yoganathan et al. (2021), in this era of digitalisation, all the hospitality services like check-ins, check-outs, room services and bookings are preferred through the smartphones by majority of customers. So, this technology will give a satisfaction to the guests which will make their stay in the hotels comfortable and hassle free. Technology has become a major requirement in our daily life, and this must also be incorporated in the hospitality sector for the maximum outcome.
As stated by Pavic (2021), to provide satisfactory services to the customers, hospitalities must keep on upgrading themselves with the recent technologies and innovate new ways to keep up with the high-end market. This will attract more customers and the chances of recommendations will grow to a huge extent. Customer retention on the other hand will highly increase if the hotels keeps themselves upgraded with all the latest service information available at their place.
As claimed by Garrido-Moreno et al. (2021), it is often seen that the customers are uncomfortable to interact with the front desk staff. This problem can be eliminated by keeping all the essential hotel services in the smartphones where a click can take them to their required services. It creates a positive impact on the visitors which they appreciate being device friendly. The work of the reception desk is also decreased where the workers can be allotted with certain other jobs of the hotel, such as in the food department.
As mentioned by Sharma and Gupta (2021), waiting for a long time for hotel services creates a bitter impact on the visitors which can be tackled with digital services. Starwood hotel is trying to remove such problems with technology to increase their visitor’s satisfaction in the field of both booking and payments. This is also time-effective and removes all the scrambling when in hurry.
As stated by Lawton (2021), the Starwood hotels check-in process is quite hectic. Once the room is booked, the check in is done by personnel who hand overs the key to the visitor. This process takes much time to check in and often irritates the visitors. Nowadays, all are in a hurry and never wants to waste time in such mere issues which can be solved through technology. Hence, it will be much helpful for both the hotels...
