The purpose of the post this week is to begin drawing out connections between these two paired plays in preparation for the midterm essay, which will focus on similar skills in comparing and contrasting how these two plays approach similar themes of family, race, home, and identity.To accomplish this, I want students tocompose two observations of similarities-one for characterization and one for conflict. Each observation should
identify and describe
a similarity between the two plays. Make a claim about what is similar andsupport the claim with evidence from both plays(a writing skill called synthesis - where evidence is drawn together from multiple sources to support a claim)
