Within days of Donald Sterling’s (former owner of the LA Clippers basketball team), racist comments, several sponsors immediately canceled their sponsorship of the team. Was this ethical behavior? Discuss.

A company is always comfortab
le to do sponsoring a team which is having a good reputation and fanbase. In other words, a team with a huge fanbase gets more sponsorship than any other team, as a result, the fanbase is a factor that attracts more sponsors to the team (Jensen & Cornwell, 2021). There is always a common objective or intention behind sponsors, through sponsoring the team, the company wants to build its reputation and reach out to the maximum possible customers. In the case of Donald Sterling’s case, it has been observed that a lot of hate comments have been received by the LA Clipper Basketball team his remark on racism. Explanation of his remark on racism and whether it's ethical to cancel sponsorship or not has been discussed below.
On April 25, 2014 “TMZ sports” released a recording of Sterling where he is in a conversation with his mistress, making comments like “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you're associating with black people" (tmz.com, 2014). Several other related comments are also published. These comments are completely discriminating against black people while the majority of the NBA athletics are black....
