Criminalizing the mentally ill
Mental illness in relation to crime has been a point of debate for a long time. This relation comes from the fact that the most common plea criminals make to have their sentences reduced is mental illness. The viability of such claims is often determined by the criminals medical records and consequently, the convicted is sent to the prison, regardless of whether he is determined to be mentally ill or not.
