Products & Services ~ Branding
The text states that “customers attach meanings to
brands and develop brand relationships” (Armstrong & Kotler, 2014). If
consumers purchase a product to try it and end up loving the quality and value,
they will continue buying it. Tide is a very popular laundry detergent. It may be
expensive but since it is a great product people are willing to spend the extra
money because they have “developed a relationship” with it. Another
example of a strong brand would be Disney. On page 203 of the text, Armstrong
and Kotler state, “to differentiate their offers, beyond simply making
products and delivering services, they are creating and managing customers
experiences with their brands or companies” (2014). Disney has theme
parks, stores, and merchandise that people keep visiting and purchasing. Like
Tide, Disney is more expensive than other brands but since it is magical people
are willing to spend the extra money. Lastly, on page 209, “Brand names
help consumers identify products that might benefit them” (Armstrong &
Kotler, 2014). The first thing that popped in my head is Coricidin cough and
cold medicine. This medicine is specifically designed for people with high
blood pressure. Since this brand clearly marks that on their packaging,
consumers know that this medicine will benefit their health.
A marketer can leverage their brand awareness when
introducing a new brand extension by using their original, popular products or
services. If a company wants to have a new brand I would assume they are very
profitable. By showing off what they already have, it will help consumers
understand that they give quality products and/or services which will make
consumers want to try their new products.
Thinking of my favorite brand was tough because I always buy
the cheapest of everything. Store brand is what mostly fills my house because
it is the same quality for a lesser price. If I had to choose a favorite brand
I would say Suave. I use their shampoo, conditioner, hair styling products,
body wash, and deodorant. Their products may not be top of the line but they
get the job done and are very cheap. I never smell bad at the end of the day so
clearly the body wash and deodorant have high quality. On Thanksgiving evening,
I went to the store and I got bottles and bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and
body wash for nothing because they had all kinds of coupons in the newspaper
inserts plus the store had an instant rebate deal if you bought so much
