When you least expect in your time as a
driver you will need to know how to change a tire. The ability to change a flat
tire is a critical skill that is extremely helpful to anyone that is a driver.
Some people never practice how to change a tire, until they are stranded on the
side of the road with a flat tire. Being able to change a driver effectively
and quickly can help a stranded driver get back on the road safely and as soon
as practical.
If you are driving on the road as soon as
you realize you have a flat tire, the first step you must accomplish is finding
a safe spot to pull over. Prior to
exiting your vehicle you should turn on your hazard lights, so in the event
that you arenât clearly visible, at the very least other drivers can see your
lights flashing. Most vehicles come with a jack and spare tire in the trunk,
locate your tire, jack and wrench, and set them off to the side. At this point you have already determined
where your flat is, go ahead and brace the side diagonally across from that
tire, putting some large object in the way of that tire. That step is only
necessary if you are perhaps on uneven terrain, in an effort to reduce the
vehicle from rolling off the jack. Using the wrench, loosen all lugs nuts, do
not remove the lug nuts leave them loosely fastened. Set up the jack, and
ensure it is lined up with the point your owners manual tells you the jack has
to lift the vehicle from, expand jack and lift up the car.
Now that you have successfully braced the
vehicle, loosened the lug nuts, and jacked the car up, remove the lug nuts
completely. Replace the flat tire with your spare tire and put on the lug nuts
without completely tightening them, just enough to keep the tire in itâs
place. Collapse the jack, which in turn
will lower the car, back in to the ground.
Start tightening the lug nuts, you must ensure you tighten one about
halfway and then move on to the lug nut directly opposite of that one. Continue
this pattern until all lug nuts are tightened completely. You have successfully
changed your flat tire, now place all your tools and tire in the trunk and
drive off. Being unable to properly
conduct these steps will cause for hardship on yourself as a driver, and will
slow your travels down.
