This includes 66 properties that are owned or leased with 20,264 rooms, 276 that are managed with 119,594 rooms, and 244 that are franchised with 75,765 rooms.
Azure Hotels & Resorts is Azure’s flagship brand and one of the largest hotel brands in the world. The brand is targeted at both business and leisure travellers with locations in major city centres, near airports, convention centres, and popular vacation destinations around the world.

Azure Hotel & Spa is a global brand of full-service hotels and resorts which is extending its franchise in Perth and as a Senior health and safety adviser at Azure Hotel & Spa you are given responsibilities to
· Establish and maintain framework for health, safety and security.
· Establish and maintain consultative arrangements for the management of health, safety and security.
· Establish and maintain practices for identifying hazards and assessing and controlling risks.
· Evaluate organisational health, safety and security system.
Activity 1: Establish and maintain a framework for health, safety and security.
Q1: Access and read model WHS Act, model WHS Regulation, model codes of practice, Western Australia Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984, Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996. Interpret the above documents to ensure WHS system of Azure Hotel & Spa chain complies with local and federal regulatory requirements, standards and codes.
Write a brief analysis on the interpretation of above regulatory standards and codes including methods of receiving updated information on WHS laws and codes of practice. Additionally your supervisor has asked you to investigate legislative requirement related to workplace bullying and identify at least two requirements which Azure Hotel & Spa can improve in the below template.
Interpretation of regulatory standards and codes
From the regulatory standards and codes, it can be gathered that they aim to maintain good health and safety of the workers in the workplace. Work Health and Safety officers take the responsibility of keeping a check on the workers’ health and safety as well as the enforcement of the codes and regulatory standards in the workplace environment. The Work Health and Safety acts and regulatory standards seek to establish welfare and safety of employees and other people at work. They also ensure that the workers and other employees are safe and protected from the risks to which they are exposed at their workplace. The regulatory standards and codes also aim to eliminate the risks associated with the working of the employees in the workplace area.
The codes and regulatory standards compel the employers to proactively take care and adequate responsibility regarding the safety and welfare of the employees as well as implement practicable methods to offer highest safety and protection to the employees. Employers and employees should engage in a discussion regarding the health risks and the safety measures that can be implemented in order to eliminate or reduce the risks. Through the acts, regulatory standards and codes, both physical and psychological aspects of health of the employees are taken into consideration.
The employees can receive updated information on WHS laws and codes of practice from the government websites of Australia. They can also receive necessary information from the website of Azure Hotel and Spa. (246 words)
List of requirements unfulfilled/ needs improvement: workplace bullying
The Occupational Health and Safety Act recognises the psychological wellbeing of the employees within the definition and premises of workplace health, safety and welfare. Therefore, it is expected that any kind of workplace hazards, which can be physical or psychological, be identified, assessed, reduced, reviewed and if necessary, removed. Workplace bullying can have major negative implications on the wellbeing and productivity of the employees, such as distress, anxiety attacks, physical illness, reduced work performance and productivity, decreased regularity, loss of self-esteem, deteriorating relationships with co-employees and employers, depression and so on. Therefore, based on the aims and principles formulated by the act, it is the role of the employers to consult with the employees in order to identify and assess the risks of workplace bullying, make decisions regarding the measures to control health risks and ensure safety, make decisions about procedures that can be implemented in order to reduce the health and safety risks, provide adequate information and training and propose changes that can bring about changes in the health and safety measures of the employees.
Two requirements for ensuring improvement in Azure Hotel and Spa regarding issues of workplace bullying are as follows:
· It is essential that the employers and employees engage in a more open discussion regarding the issues of workplace bullying so that the employees have a proper idea regarding the issue.
· The employers ought to be more proactive in identifying and assessing the risks of workplace bullying as well as its consequences. They should take the responsibility of properly informing and training the employees so that they can deal with the issues of workplace bullying.
