Nike Website Critique NIKE WEBSITE CRITIQUE Overview The goal of this assignment is to provide students with hands-on experience critiquing website designs to enhance usability. Usability refers to an overall evaluation of how a system performs in supporting a particular user for a particular task. To assess usability, we examine the interaction between information systems and the users of these systems from the user’s perspective. In order for an information system to achieve high levels of usability, the system must allow users to accomplish their tasks in the most effective way possible. Specifically, usability can be measured in terms of the following components: Speed – how quickly the user perform a task Accuracy – how many errors were made while performing the task Satisfaction – a user’s subjective assessment of how easy the system was to use, as well as how useful the system was Task In this assignment, you will be given an opportunity to critique the usability of a real-world commercial website. Specifically, you are asked to critique the Nike, Inc. website, which can be located at: http://www.nike.com. The assignment is part of Project Shoelace, which is a joint academic effort between the University of Montana’s School of Business Administration and Nike, Inc. The project targets lower and upper core courses, including the capstone class. Within these courses, faculty designate assignments where Nike is the subject company and in completing the assignments students make connections between academic knowledge and industry practice enabling students to develop a more authentic understanding of a lesson within the discipline. Deliverable Your deliverable must be submitted below by attaching your deliverable in either Word or PDF format. Your deliverable should consist of two parts as follows: Overview – Write a complete paragraph that introduces the concept of usability, explains the importance of usability to modern organizations, and describes the intent/purpose of the website. Critique – Critique the website along the six factors that influence usability, as listed below. For each, write a complete paragraph that explains the factor and describes why such issues can compromise usability. Describe how the website fulfills and/or compromises each factor of usability. If you encounter any usability issues, make recommendations regarding how usability can be improved. o Efficiency o Consistency o Understandability o Predictability o Accessibility http://www.nike.com./ NIKE WEBSITE CRITIQUE o Intrusiveness Assume that your critique is intended to be read by a business manager, who may be unfamiliar with usability concepts. Therefore, be sure to clearly explain the rationale behind your responses, as if you were informing an individual with limited knowledge. Format Your submission should follow the formatting guidelines: Be sure your name and section appear on the top of the first page Use Times New Roman,12-point font Use single spacing Use 1” margins all around Evaluation Criteria Submissions will be evaluated based on quality rather than quantity.
