Statement of Issue
Everyday I walk to school because I live less than half a mile away from school.
Many people take public transportation!
CTA operates 24 hours a day
On a
verage, 1.7 million rides happen on buses and trains
Buses take about 20 thousand trips a day
Physical Data
A bus weighs between 11000kg and 14000kg i.e., approximately 11 to 14 tonnes.
The average speed of a city bus is measured by the distance covered in a particular time frame.
This is generally measured in Kilometre per hour, Kmph in short.
The average speed of a city bus in close to 100kmph.
Normal Force
When two objects are in contact with each other, they exhibit a force perpendicular to their surface of contact so as not to get penetrated into each other. This force is called a normal force.
In simple cases, it is given by the formula, F= mg, where m is the mass of the object and g is the acceleration due to gravity.
Its unit is Newton (N)
In our case, the normal force of a city bus, F = 11000kg*9.8m/s2 = 1.08*105N
Net Force
When a particle is acted upon by a number of forces, a net force is the vector sum of all the forces acting on the body. It means that the net force replaces all the other forces, giving the particle the same acceleration.
This was put down by Newton in his Second law of motion.
The velocity the bus hits the ground with, v = 0+(10*0.1)= 1m/s
Force the bus hits the ground with, F = ma = 11000*10= 1.1*105N
The normal force and the net force vary by 2000N
Waves
Mechanical waves - a wave that is an oscillation of matter, and therefore transfers energy through a medium
Ex: Sound! It can travel through air, water, or solids
Transverse waves- a wave vibrating at right angles to the direction of its propagation
Ex: Ripples on water or vibrations on a guitar string
Surface waves - A wave that has longer wavelengths than body waves
Ex: Ocean waves
A bus horn is an example of a mechanical wave.
Earthquakes
Earthquake - the shaking or trembling caused by the sudden release of energy due to...
