Introduction
Marriage and castes are interlinked with Indian culture. In fact, the social stigmas existing in Indian societies are driven from the ideologies that often serve as the barrier towards the concept of open marriages which are popular in Western culture. A Suitable Boy by Vikarm Seth brings to light some of the basic themes that serve as the source of conflict in the novel. Seth is tempted by these differences existing in Indian societies about seeing the degree of ‘suitability’ in young men and women belonging to same castes or religion (Reena, 777). There is no space given to the individual feelings and bonds that exist outside the culture of a particular religion. The main themes that influence the plot and characters eventually in the novel are suitability of male, conservative perspective pursued in love and marriage as well as religious intolerance due to the partition of India in post freedom era of 1947.

    At first, the central theme of the story is suitability of male because it has to be founded in the same caste or religion only. This ideology is driven from Indian societies where the matches for the young girls are found over certain points.
