This assessment is designed to get you to think strategically when planning operations in form of an operational plan. This is where you get to link departmental initiatives/projects to strategic initiatives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). In this operational plan you will bring the knowledge of best practices discussed in your previous assignment which could be framed as initiatives and or projects as part of your operational plan.



Your Task


Based on best practices knowledge from your previous assignment, you are required to develop an operational plan for a hotel


It does not have to be about the whole hotel but instead it can be about a particular department to keep it manageable.


If you can hone your skills to do it on one you will be able to replicate it for any department (s) in the future.

Your assignment should be presented as follows:



  1. Hotel Vision & Mission(50 words) – provide an introduction to identify the three issues.

  2. Hotel Strategic Objectives(900 words) – the body should introduce, describe and explain the three global issues using a sub-heading for each issue.

  3. Departmental structure of Hotelwith Full time Equivalent (FTE) i.e [How many people working for department 40 hrs or more per week][PW3][KD4][KD5](50 words) – a brief conclusion to summarise implications of best practices for global tourism into the future including a departmental organogram with each function highlighted and no of people working in that team (FTEs)

  4. Current year strategic priorities– a list of references – minimum 6 – (industry and academic).

  5. Cascading of initiative into projects based on best practices identified in your previous assignment

  6. Deciding on leading indicators for each of those initiatives that will allow the organisation to monitor its progress at reporting time.
