We are a team of E-Learning developers and we have been contacted by a highly successful college that is currently delivering its training programs exclusively via a traditional delivery mode (classroom/face-to-face delivery). The college however feels it is ready to tap into the lucrative marketplace of E-Learning. As of now – it has not moved its offerings online beyond having a simple billboard-style website.





The college wants to commission you to build the E-Learning Platform ‘’from scratch’’ and to assist in moving all of the courses online. Unfortunately, as they are new to the very concept of e-learning, they are happy to provide you with the budget (hopefully appealing enough for you to get on board), timeframe and scope for the project as well as with complete information about their current business environment (courses, students, resources, facilities etc.). And now…the ball is in your court!





You take a look at the college’s offerings. You really like the courses they are delivering. Introduction
E-Learning is a relatively new concept in which the professors go online for the provision of the knowledge base for the students and provide the necessary materials to help the students. The professors provide the information that needs to be delivered via online channels such as E-Learning portals and also social media. Now a days a trend is going on in which the professors deliver the sessions via social media channels in order to attract more students.
There are multiple tools available on the internet which can be utilised to create an interactive website development and also to help the students. (Cela, K. L., Sicilia, M. Á., & Sánchez, S. (2015). ) The use of technology in the implementation of the portal which increases customer acquisition and interaction is the way ahead. The growth of the use of social media for the knowledge delivery increases the worth of knowledge as the students can access the video lectures and the solved problems multiple times in day and year which increases the understanding levels
Integrating Social Media into the E-Learning Platform
There is a trend among people to believe that the online trainings need to be provided to people via Learning Management Systems only. There are multiple Learning platforms like Backboard, Angel etc. These are the tools tat allowed the faculty to move their things online without the need to learn coding such as HTML. This facilitated the basic use of the online portals for learning. (Popescu, E. (2014).)
As online learning grew, the systems grew more complex in nature. This made the system fragile which brought in the use of the new administrative functionality of an instructional designer to manage the functions.
Now the trend is changing as the faculty is trying to get back the control of the learning thread from the administrators by the use of social media such as blogs, wikis and Voice threads. These systems bring out the connectivity among the students and the faculty that no other management systems can bring about. One of the best things is that instead of creating modules of the lectures for hours, the faculty can explain the concepts in a blog and can publish it. With this they get access to all the students and the faculty can then spend time in communicating with them.
Very few colleges have the social media strategy and many colleges think that LMS is the only way to deliver online courses. This makes the courses exclusive to the students
Certain ways to include Social media into learning courses:
1. Sharing Audio through iTrack: When we do not have time to read through the material, a simple audio file of the lecture which had been published on the social media platform would suffice. While travelling in a metro, we might finish off the lecture itself!
2. Sharing images and pics via Instagram: Instagram is one of those applications which has world wide use and also helps in the sharing of data and data sources. Multiple students use instagram to share the photocopied images of their assignments. If assignments can be shared, so can the lectures. (Popescu, E. (2014).)
3. Hosting complex Wonder trees with Wonderlist: It is one of the most efficient applications which help in the managing of the files, folders, databases. It helps the student and the supervisor to stay focussed
4. Collaborating in Google Docs: Giving multiple access to students and the professors with tracing the changes that can be made in the documents is what we want. This application isn’t new in the industry and helps in the maintaining of the records and the databases for the study material (Popescu, E. (2014).)
