Hello All,

This is writing assignment #1. You will pick from chapters 1-11 and write about a specific major topic covered in the chapter. The paper will be 3-6 pages double spaced. The format is double-spaced with 1” margins, Times New Roman or something similar 12pt font. The assignments must have your name, date, course, and instructor’s name at the top left corner.Failure to follow format will result in point deduction.

The paper will detail whatever topic you choose in more detail than what the book discusses. This means you will need to use outside sources and need to also cite sources you use. The topics have a bit of freedom and if you are not sure you can consult me.

Genetics
Genetics is a branch of Biology that deals wi
th the study of genes, DNA, and genetic variations. Genetics is a revolutionary branch of Biology, which has paved the way for new opportunities and innovation in the field of Science. As noted by Lewis, Genetics has played a significant role in solving many world issues like development of medicine such as insulin for diabetic patients or treatment for the fertilization. Genetics is not stick to the Science field only; it has helped in many pressing issues such as genetically modified crops help in fighting the hunger of the world.
The DNA is used by crime branches in the world to identify the culprit with mere detection of DNA of the person. DNA helped in identification of parents of the offspring. As noted by Nussbaum et al., Genetics is now an important part of the life, being useful in the form of a tomato on the shelf to medicines. Genetics has touched everything. Study of the DNA from ancient fossils allowed learning new things about the history of human beings.
Cells
Cell is the structural and functional unit of all the living beings. All the organisms are made up of cells. Organisms are either unicellular like bacteria or multicellular like human beings. As suggested by Sherwood, cell can be prokaryotic or eukaryotic. Prokaryotic cells lack the internal compartmentalization, on contrary, eukaryotic cells consist of membrane bound organelles which are absent in prokaryotic cells. Prokaryotic cells were the first and most primitive cell on the earth.
Today, single-celled bacteria consist of prokaryotic cell. There are two types of cells, plant cell and animal cell. All these cells consist of organelles, cell membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm. Some of the common cell organelles present in the cell includes mitochondria, Golgi body, endoplasmic reticulum, and ribosomes. In plant cell, cell wall and chloroplast are present, whereas in animal cells centrioles is present. As suggested by Fowke et al., all the cell organelles perform specific function in the cell. For example, mitochondria help in producing ATP which energy currency of the body. Thus, it is also known as powerhouse of the cell....
