Professional Meeting Reflection
OVERVIEW OF THE MEETING:
This was a meeting on environmental health which discussed about different ideologies of the attendees. The speakers belonged to varied departments whose core field of interest was environmental health. The complete awareness on Covidsafe as well as the Covidsafe checks were provided here. They mainly focused on maintaining a consistent checklist option every week and collects data to inform their communication with traders only. They also check availability of hand sanitizers and the business owner states with Covidsafe plan on an almost daily basis to understand the areas of improvement and the level of their achievement. A small discussion on the small scale business supports and their cost effectiveness was also done. An insight on Eco Dev was provided by one of the attendee. Few points on improving the assessments, inspections and faster analysis that would be more helpful to deal with the pandemic was shared by few others who were part of the meeting.
1. What is a community of practice? Reflecting on the Community of Practice you attended, what elements of this Community of Practice reflect those described in the literature?
Communities of Practice (CoP) are gatherings of volunteer members that have a continuous communication around a common concern (1). CoPs give a climate wherein experts can share their training encounters, create and examine spaces of interests and assemble a feeling of local area (2). A people group of training was a term initially instituted by Etienne Wenger, instruction specialist and scholastic, who depicted CoP as "Gatherings of individuals who share an energy for something that they realize how to do and who communicate consistently to figure out how to improve". The effective CoP expects individuals to be participatory and is basically lead by its individuals. It is the part's liability to guarantee that the CoP stays pertinent, drawing in and offers worth to the space of interest (3).
In the CoP that I have attended, the main focussed topic was dealing the COVID-19 pandemic. The Covidsafe checks and providing the essentials to the people suffering was most targeted. It is a topic of concern in the recent times considering globally and hence it would reflect as the most valued CoP of recent time.
2. What are the positives or benefits of a Community of Practice? Reflecting on the Community of Practice you attended, what do you think were the key benefits or positives of this Community of Practice. Provide an example from your experience to support your response.
