You will write a reflection essay of Stevenson’s (2014) book, Just Mercy. This will be a five-paragraph esaay, and will begin with your choice of a quotation from Just Mercy that you found most compelling. First consider: What is your main thought about this book? What really pulls at you? If all writing is a way to convince someone of your argument, what is the most important aspect of this book to you? Graff and Birkenstein (2018) set forth that “before you can select appropriate quotations, you need to have a sense of what you want do with them – that is, how they will support your text at a particular point… you need to make sure they support your own argument” (p. 44). Find a quote that will support your reflection upon the book. After you select the quotation that most influenced you, craft your response – what Stevenson said, and why he said it, and respond to his argument. A three-step process may be helpful, as you draft the outline of your introduction: 1) introduce the quotation; 2) include the quotation, and 3) follow up or explain the quotation. In your five paragraph essay, you will start your introduction using your chosen quote and the response you crafted using the templates above. The next three paragraphs will be your three main points that support your overall argument or opinion. The fifth paragraph will be your conclusion. Sources (6 total): You will need to incorporate your textbook (McMasters et al.) as a source and Just Mercy as a source, plus four other sources. In total, you will have six sources. Details: 3-5 pages, excluding cover sheet and reference pages. 1-inch margins, double spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Calibri font, page numberings. Cover sheet and references are required. Formatting and citation style: You will use the American Psychological Association’s (APA) formatting and citation style guide, which is the style guide used in the social sciences. You will use this for your cover page, in-text citations, and reference page.

JUST MERCY
Bryan Stevenson says in his book ‘Just Mercy’, ‘The true measure of our character is how we tre
at the poor, the disfavoured, the accused, the incarcerated and the condemned. We are all implicated when we allow other people to be mistreated’. The primary thought projected in the book is that often appropriate justice is not granted by the judiciary system due to which the deprived section of the society and the innocent suffers. Bryan Stevenson, a lawyer by profession had originated the Equal Justice Initiative in order to provide legal support to the people in need, the poor section, the wrongly accused and the women and children who do not have any access to law. The case of Walter Mc Milan had changed his perception about justice and mercy, which engrossed me in the book. The fact that the book is based on true events also helps to grab my attention as a reader.
As stated by Henry, ‘Lord Lift me up, and let me stand. By faith on Heaven’s tableland’. There are a series of instances in the book that point out that justice is not delivered by the judiciary system in a fair way as varied aspects like politics, social status, race, and so on are associated with it. Walter McMillian, a black man belonging to the region of Alabama, was wrongly accused for the murder of white woman during the year of 1986. As Stephenson gets to know more about the community to which Mc Miller belonged to, he got to know more about the racial oppression...
