Gender inequality in society creates a barrier for effective sustainable development and thereby limits the livelihood of women. It is a potential disparity that is created i
n the society and the economy which is often rooted in social and cultural norms. Gender inequalities create barriers to effective sustainable development and livelihood by limiting and restricting women's access to resources and their decision-making opportunities in society as a whole. In some instances, they do not have control over the resources and therefore there exists an imbalance of power within the society. These aspects make gender inequality an effective sustainable issue in the present context.
Society has undergone a rigorous change in the last century. Almost every nation around the globe marked them as democratic and independent. Despite search healthy aspects of society gender inequality remains a worldwide issue. Even today, in almost all the nations across the globe women are underrepresented in the leadership roles dominated, and in some cases there even used as unpaid labor. Literature has considered gender inequality that persists in society is weak at the problem that arises due to the interactions of multiple factors that are both a symptom and the cause of the problems. Even though there are some disagreements regarding the above-mentioned statement however the ratio of gender inequality is still grappling with complexity.
Sustainability is the significant culture in the public debate and discussion which resonates the ability of the organizations to take actions or processes that are continuing to operate perpetually. By simplifying the aspect it can be defined as things that are maintained over time. It is also determined as the ecological processes and taking actions in order to enhance the quality of life. The concepts of gender equality the discrimination belongs to the social dimensions of the sustainability issues (Moscardo, 2013). The sustainability issues with reference to the human social dimensions relate the conservation of resources that enhances individual’s social connections and networks. Hence, we can define sustainability as an acknowledgement that take place in multiple forms in order to contribute to the quality of life and well-being of the individuals and the communities.
Throughout the history of debates and discussion on sustainability aspects there were number of factors that have been presented in order to provide diversified aspects of the concepts of sustainability. It has effectively contemplated with the concepts of ethics and Social Justice which serves to be an important element of sustainability. The aspect of social justice and sustainability was effective enough to contemplate with the gender inequality issues that have become a wicked problem in the society. Therefore gender inequality issues are sustainable aspect in terms of social dimension that are critical for human survival in order to provide safe and positive work environment and other safety aspects in the society.
It is effective to recognize that the aspect of gender discrimination is still persisting in society such that even the sustainable development goals of the government are failing to resolve it. The effect of gender discrimination is relevant from the aspect that women are not given a promotion despite their efficiency. It is obvious from the above case study that gender issues are still prominent and is a profound wicked problem that remains unanswered in the 21st century too. Gender inequality and discrimination have been persisting in the organization and more profound in the corporate sector in which female colleagues are sexually abused and exploited which is quite obvious and clear from the above-mentioned case study. Even though Martha has a decent education and has good academic background she was doubted about her skills and optimality in her service. This aspect of doubting just because she is a female employee is one of the grave issues that most employees face even today.
