(b) TWO (2) examples (from news stories published since 2015) where the employment relations issue has occurred in that industry AND the HRM practices most relevant to it. Guidance Notes: You may consider and/or adhere to the following: • Two (2) examples may include two to four companies in an Industry and two employment relation issues • News stories must be reliably sourced for example ABC News, 9news or equivalent. • Please note that a minimum of four and maximum of six HRM practices must be discussed • References and in-text citations from peer-reviewed journals (published between 2015-2021) would be required for suggested HRM practices. This will form the basis of identification of relevant HRM practices and related explanation. For example, Compensation and benefits is an HRM practice relevant to the issue of wage theft and entitlements. (c) a detailed recommendation of how HRM practices could be used as a system to address the employment relations issue raised in your examples. Guidance Notes: You may consider and/or adhere to the following: • Recommendations must be based on your readings from peer-reviewed journals and must be tied back to HRM practices discussed in part (b). Introduction
Building upon the first two assessments in which the organization that was taken into consideration was Qantas Airline, which is one of the oldest and successful companies of Australia. The industry in which the Qantas Airline would come is the aviation industry and that is the reason this assessment report would considerably focus on the aviation industry. This report will focus on the extensive areas like the overview of an employment relati
on issue that is common to the aviation industry. Further the report would also showcase the examples from the news stories that was published since the year 2015, focusing on the employment relation issues that was addressed and observed in the aviation industry. Along with it the report would also focus on the HRM practices that could be used as a prominent system to address the employment relation issues that would be raised in the context of aviation industry.
Employment Relation Issues in Aviation Industry
In the present time the employment relation issues is prevalent in almost all the industries. In the aviation industry also there are several common employment relation issues that persist predominantly. Some of the prime employment relation issues in the aviation industry include-
Conflict Management
Among several employment relation issues that are channelized in the aviation industry conflict and disputes are the basic and the most inevitable ones. In the aviation industry also several disputes are being observed within the employees, owners and the management. As all of them have their different opinion and viewpoints on certain aspects and contexts that instigates disputes among them. Conflict and disputes among the employees or the management not only hampers the productivity but also tarnishes the relationship between the employee and the employer on a frequent basis. In the aviation industry the conflicts within the employees and the employer also impacts the environment of the organizations (Eaton et al., 2017).
Hours and Wage Issues
Hours and wage issue is the most common issues that are observed in almost every industry that is functioning in the market place. In the aviation industry also the hours and wage issues are considered as the most prevalent and influential one as it directly impacts the job satisfaction of the employees and the staffs that are working for the relevant companies. In the present context wage or the pay is the most common area where the aviation employees and staffs seeks change. If the hours and wage issues are not amended and scrutinized within the time it considerably impacts the employee and employer relationship.
Annual Leave Disputes
In the industry different organizations have different policies regarding the leaves and in the organization it is one of the most important things that the employees look upon. In the aviation industry also the annual leave dispute is a major thing as the employees get indulged in conflicts and disputes with the management over the leaves. As in the aviation industry the companies keep on changing their leave policies that considerably impacts the employee and employer relationship (Gupta et al., 2018).
Negative Work Environment
One of another employment relation issues that pertains in the aviation industry is due to the negative work environment. As in the aviation industry there are several organizations that have different policies and guidelines for handling different works and aspects if it is not handled effectively it leads to a negative work environment. The negative work environment considerably aids to the employment relation issues in the organization as the employees feel dissatisfied and unhappy with the experience that they are attaining at the job. Among all the basic and common reasons it is also one of the most prevalent one.
Career Development Opportunities
Every organization offers different opportunities for the career growth and advancement to its employees. In the aviation industry also the organizations offer the career development opportunities to its employees but the range of career development is limited as the aviation industry did not have wide range of options for all the employees. The employment relation issues occur when the employees feels that they are not given adequate and proper opportunity that would help their career in getting the desired boost. It not only impacts their performance but also affects their relation with the employer.
Adequate Safety at Work
Like all the other industries the adequate safety at work is one of the basic and major factors that channelize the employment relation at the workplace. As every industry has some risk factor associated with it whether it is considering the workplace or generally. In the aviation industry also the inadequate work safety and condition is one of the major factor that create employment relation issues. As if the employees feel that they are not getting safe and proper work environment it eventually creates an issue with them which in one way or another affect their work as well as their productivity.
Lack of Communication
One of the major employment relation issue at the aviation industry as well as the industries that are quite similar to it is the lack of communication in the organization within the staffs or with the management as well. The lack of communication restricts the employees to communicate their issues and problem with the management which in turn leads to the conflict and rifts between the management and the employees. In the aviation industry also the organizations who fail to establish a proper connection with its employees has to considerably face this issue.
