What do I need to do?
Prepare a research essay paper on a current freight transportation challenge. Select only ONE (1) of the following current freight transportation challenge:
Green/sustainable freight transportation trend (i.e., what are the implications to cost and service levels in providing green/sustainable freight transportation?)
Freight transportation safety and security (i.e., what are the implications of increased security measures in freight transportation?)
Traffic congestion (i.e., what are the impacts of traffic congestion on the freight transportation industry?)
Students are expected to demonstrate their in-depth understanding and analysis of the chosen topic by including sections such as (and not limited to):
Background of the selected freight transportation challenge (approximately 10% of
word count);
How this challenge came about and how it will affect the overall logistics industry in
Singapore (approximately 40% of word count); and
YOUR recommendations to reduce or eliminate the challenge as well as increase the
benefits obtained from quality (effective and efficient) freight transportation management (approximately 30% of word count).
Present your findings and analysis in a research essay format. Your research paper should 1,500 (±5%) words in length. A word count declaration is required at the end of the paper or at the Title page.

You can try to get scholarly papers from RMIT’s e-library (Emerald, Science Direct &
ProQuest databases), www.manufacturing.net, Google Scholar but not Wikipedia (because the information may not have gone through vigorous research).

You will need 8-15 good articles (e.g. online news article or article from latest industry newsletter, corporate websites, white papers, etc.) to demonstrate adequate extent of research as well as content analysis.

How will the task be assessed?
• Synopsis/Abstract (4.0 marks) - Succinct summary of main findings and recommendations.
• Extent of Research (3.0 marks) - Comprehensive coverage of the chosen topic that can result in quality
comparative analysis.
• Quality of Analysis (4.0 marks) - Level of understanding should be well demonstrated to generate quality analysis and recommendations.
• Quality of Recommendations (4.0 marks) - Well-thought and creative recommendations that include identification of stakeholders and their roles in implementing the recommendations.
• Academic language (2.0 marks) - Ability to present quality discussions in discipline-specific vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and sentence structuring.
• References – adequate quantity and quality (3.0 marks) - Adequate quantity and quality of articles used to support quality discussions and analysis.
