What do I need to do?

Prepare a research essay paper on a current freight transportation challenge. Select only ONE (1) of the following current freight transportation challenge:

  •  Green/sustainable freight transportation trend (i.e., what are the implications to cost and service levels in providing green/sustainable freight transportation?)

  •  Freight transportation safety and security (i.e., what are the implications of increased security measures in freight transportation?)

  •  Traffic congestion (i.e., what are the impacts of traffic congestion on the freight transportation industry?)

    Students are expected to demonstrate their in-depth understanding and analysis of the chosen topic by including sections such as (and not limited to):

  •  Background of the selected freight transportation challenge (approximately 10% of

    word count);

  •  How this challenge came about and how it will affect the overall logistics industry in

    Singapore (approximately 40% of word count); and

  •  YOUR recommendations to reduce or eliminate the challenge as well as increase the

    benefits obtained from quality (effective and efficient) freight transportation management (approximately 30% of word count).

    Present your findings and analysis in a research essay format. Your research paper should 1,500 (±5%) words in length. A word count declaration is required at the end of the paper or at the Title page.

Abstract
Green/Sustainable Freight Transportation is one of the immediate solutions for the emissions problems and subsequent environmental degradation due to the freight services at present in general. Green/Sustainable freight transportation offers an unique advantage of reducing the emissions by providing intermodal transportation, where in the opportunities of diverse transportation channels can be taken advantage of like sea, air routes to supplement or compliment the traditional transportation. This will not only reduce the transit time, transfer route distance but also will improve business benefits and customer satisfaction along with reducing the carbon foot print. However for mass scale absorption of this system into the organization, there is need for considerable focus on developing the capacity of the models like improving the infrastructure resilience, working for improving the overall technology orientation, taking advantage of new technological innovations, training and developing the manpower to meet the challenges of executing this technique conveniently, all make up immediate needs to face the challenge of successful incorporation of Green/.Sustainable transportation. The report presented with these aspects in detail in general and with particular focus to the Singapore logistics industry. Further a set of recommendations are proposed to face these challenges and to take advantage of Green Logistics for the betterment of the overall performance.
Background of the sustainable freight challenge
Transportation is one of the key sectors, contributing to the anthropogenic green house gas emissions in the world at present. As high as 35% of the total CO2 emissions being liberated into the world at present are from the emissions due to the freight transportation operations. The major domain of the freight transportation is mainly through road transportation. Road transportation is the key contributor to the green house gas emissions at present. The increased emphasis on to reduce the gas emissions into the world, specifically the green house gas emissions resulted in focus on alternative models and channels to the freight transportation. In this connection, the concept and promotion of the sustainable freight challenge has evolved. Inter modal freight transportation is a sustainable freight transportation model (Wong et al 2015) . Inter modal freight choice(Gruchman 2019) will enable the freight transporters to choose an alternative mode of transportation instead of road ways and this in turn will result in elimination of some of the gas emissions into the atmosphere(Boer 2018). This is the primary motive behind exploring and promoting the sustainable freight based transportation (Lambrechts et al 2019).
Green Freight services challenge in Singapore and overview:
Singapore is the heart of the logistics industry in the south East Asia at present. The unique geographical location of Singapore is making it a hub for all logistics operations and enabling the delivery of the goods from via Singapore to several locations across the world. As per recent statistics, about 7.5% of the total GDP of the country at present is from the logistics industry. Also in Singapore, the total logistics industry makes up land, air and marine freight transportation. As many as 9% of the total work force in the country are at present in the logistics industry in Singapore.
The key challenges in implementing the green freight transportation in the country is contained in optimizing the costing (Kucukaltan, Irani, and Aktas, 2016). while keeping up the same...
