To be assessed as competent for this unit, you must complete all of the assessment tasks satisfactorily. Assessment Plan Assessment Task Overview 1. Written questions You must correctly answer all questions. 2. Cultivate partnerships You are required to write a report on a proposed partnership between two case study organisations. You are then required to meet with the senior management of both organisations to get their input, approval and support for your report and the partnership. 3. Implement communication and collaboration program You are required to implement several activities that have been given priority in the partnership management process. 4. Reporting partnership progress You are required to evaluate whether the partnership has reached the objectives established in Assessment Tasks 2 and 3. Assessment Preparation Please read through this assessment thoroughly before beginning any tasks. Ask your assessor for clarification if you have any questions at all. When you have read and understood this unit’s assessment tasks, print out the Student Assessment Agreement. Fill it out, sign it, and hand it to your assessor, who will countersign it and then keep it on file. Keep a copy of all of your work, as the work submitted to your assessor will not be returned to you. Assessment appeals If you do not agree with an assessment decision, you can make an assessment appeal as per your Newton College assessment appeals process. Each should include: · Course identification code · Assessment Task number · Document title (if appropriate) · Student name · Date it was created For example, BSBLDR803 AT2 Briefing Report Joan Smith 20/10/19 Assessment Instructions Each assessment task in this booklet consists of the following: Assessment Task Cover Sheet This must be filled out, signed and submitted together with your assessment responses. If you are submitting hardcopy, the Cover Sheet should be the first page of each task’s submission. If you are submitting electronically, print out the cover sheet, fill it out and sign it, then scan this and submit the file. The Assessment Task Cover Sheet will be returned to you with the outcome of the assessment, which will be satisfactory (S) or unsatisfactory (U). If your work has been assessed as being not satisfactory, your assessor will include written feedback in the Assessment Task Cover Sheet giving reasons why. 1. Compare and contrast at least one current and one past theories and thinking about innovation
Current Theory: Hall’s Concerns based on Innovation Model in which the idea is to address the concerns of the teachers during the transformation process to lessen the trouble they faced. It is more successfully carried out when it is mapped in a step by step process.
Past Theory: Roger’s Innovation Diffusion Theory helps to understand the innovation adoption and the factor which influences the individual’s perspective about innovation. But, it is a difficult theory to use as a process theory when the organizational change process is adopted for innovation.
2. Explain the practical application of theories and thinking on innovation and creativity to the workplace, giving examples to illustrate your answer
Hall’s theory was applied in the real life world for the teacher trying to implement the learning process traditionally and another scientifically. The results were as below.
    Component 1: The Teacher

Thus, the Hall’s theory is applied in the form of Innovation Configuration where the individual components are broken down into ideal state of adoption or to the least state of adoption. Thus, through the second process it is easy to adopt changes in the classroom successfully.
3. Discuss how leadership styles can impact on innovation in organisations. Include at least three examples of leadership styles and their impact on innovation
Transactional leadership style: It refers to transaction of people and various other resources between the leader and subordinate, to satisfy the demands of the leaders and subordinates. It is not a strong form of innovation due to its contingent rewards and the management by exception where the active leaders’ monitors and passive leaders wait.
Transformational leadership style: This refers to transformation or changes in the form of innovation. This has a positive and highly influential impact on the leadership style. This involves Charisma, Inspirational motivation, intellectual simulation and individual considerations.
Laissez Faire: This is a complete avoidance of the leadership style. This leadership style cannot be seen in relationship with the innovation process has it has no influence on the business performance and operations.
4. Discuss how the organisational structure may impact innovation at work
The organizational structure helps to determine the allocation of various tasks, methodologies for reporting and sharing of information, coordination and controlling. Thus, if the control adjusted assessment structure focuses on joined administration control this will lead to centralized decision making policies, bringing flexibility and reduce the judgment among the employees. Thus it is highly mechanised practice which is targeted towards attaining high intensity of production and competence through the practice of recognized modus operandi and centralised power.
5. Discuss how the industry context within which a company operates may impact innovation at work
The industry context within which the company operates may impact the innovation due to high competition and abundant availability of substitutes with the customers. Thus, there is very less scope for launching new products as there may be chances of the product getting duplicated and due to price equilibrium a high priced product may be rejected by the customers. On the other hand, where there is the industry in which the company operates is having monopoly with not more than two to three players available, there is tremendous scope of development and innovation of the products.
6. Analyse and discuss three internal conditions or factors that can impact on organisational innovation
The factors that contribute and impact the organisational innovation are as follows:
1. Organizational encouragement and motivation to the employees
2. Providing financial and human resources to support the innovation process by the management
3. Creating a culture of challenging environment, free exchange of ideas and collaborative team work to support the innovative idea.
7. Analyse and discuss three external conditions or factors that can impact on organisational innovation
The external factors the influences and impacts the organizational innovations are as follows:
1. The customers who’s taste, preferences and demands is ever-changing
2. The labour market in which there is huge attrition rate for earning more and progressing in the career.
3. The technological changes which is transforming at the speed of light and getting up to it is extremely challenging and cumbersome.
8. Explain two strategies that can be used to identify; access and manage risks associated with innovation
The two strategies that can help to identify, access and manage the risks associated with the innovation process are as follows:
1. Identification of pit falls and giving utmost priority to the risks assures and enables the management and the employees of the organization to focus and emphasize on the most essential aspects which can have the impact on the project and try to mitigate the risks. This process refers to risk responsiveness in order to reduce the risks at a faster pace.
2. Risk mitigation and mitigating the schedule risks are the process through which the overall risk of the project is reduced and helps to accelerating the completion of the project. It involves the team to hire expertise in order to mitigate the risks which could cause potential scheduling damages to the business operations.
9. Outline three examples of innovation drivers in an organisation
1. Finding, encouraging and fostering the acquired talent
2. Involving managers in the process of innovation to encourage the subordinates and achieve the desired objectives.
3. Creating a prudent and cordial relationship is extremely essential between the managers and the employees.
10. Outline three examples of innovation enablers in an organisation
1. Alignment with the Business Strategy for gaining a stronghold of the uprising market
2. Tracking the correct metrics through evolution and growth in experimenting to build innovative capability.
3. Empowering the cross-functional teams who will be delivered responsibilities and be accountable for the tasks delegated to them.
11. Describe three mechanisms that can support innovative practices. The mechanisms you described can be relevant to the organisation as a whole or relevant to specific procedures
The three mechanisms to support innovative practices in the organization are as follows:
1. Incorporation of the employees in the decision making process: Encouraging innovation requires that the employees are allowed to participate as active members of the company plan and agendas.
2. Schedule brainstorming sessions: Let the staffs of the company exchange their ideas to innovation through enhancement in the level of suggestions.
3. Tolerate the mistakes: Let the employees to make mistakes and learn from it. It may cost but if successful can be productive and highly efficient.
12. Discuss three typical challenges and barriers to innovation within an organisation and ways of overcoming these challenges and barriers
1. Internal politics in larger organization: That’s why startups innovation takes much faster than in the larger organizations. The way to overcome the challenges is by creating a comfortable and cosy environment where employees can raise their voice instead of rumours, personal attacks or staying calm.
2. Cultural issues due to different values and beliefs can halt the progress of innovation: To overcome this issue it is an innovative program that will need to optimize the proof of the concept process. It is the company who will make informed decisions that will not completely eliminate the risks but increase the success rates.
3. Lack of Budgets: It takes a long time to complete the project related to innovation. Thus, there is a chance that the company may be requiring additional costs without which it is impossible to deliver. This might result in stoppage in the project progress due to budget constraints. The only way to overcome it is to not to extend the resources and think the additional cost as an investment through which gradually the innovation can be achieved.
