Leadership development and improvement have the potential to play a significant role in the career development of an individual. Technical skills along with a college degree are also equally important but to choose the path of leadership proper knowledge and acquisition of soft skills helps an individual to stay ahead of their peers (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, 2021). As mentioned by Heslin and Keating (2017), this includes being a good listener and being a prolific communicator at the same time. There is a plethora of leadership skills, which is effective in instilling the good qualities of a leader in an individual.
This includes taking the right initiatives, development of critical power of thinking, learning to provide motivation and encouragement of people around. To achieve all these, it is important in today’s highly competitive environment to strive towards enhancement of one’s leadership potentials constantly. Exhibiting one’s leadership qualities in the right forum induces a magical turn in their career. Leadership development as well as improvement makes it convenient to fetch timely promotions (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, 2021).
It helps to get the right spike in a person’s career through the maintenance of a stable track-record in roles dealing with leadership. It is quite natural for most human beings to learn and develop the skills of a leader in the natural course of their career. Reflection on Having Interest in this Topic
Proper understanding of the tenets of leadership and developing them in the most appropriate way is an interesting area to explore. There are several reasons supporting the previous statement. Firstly, it will help me in boosting confidence about taking serious responsibilities in the current job role or while trying to acquire a higher position. It will also help in focusing on learning competencies apart from the initial area of knowledge. Secondly, it will empower people to be hired for a significantly high-profile job role. As opined by Till, Sen and Crimlisk (2021), a good leader needs to be a possessor of critical thinking skills so that problems can be apprehended beforehand and unprecedented circumstances can be prevented in a timely manner.
Thirdly, a detailed study of this topic will help me in the honing of communication skills. One of the significant aspects of this quality is being a good listener. Good listening skills will always help me in understanding every team member in the workplace and building a good rapport with them. Fourthly, this topic and its learnings will help in understanding how to motivate each other during times of crisis in the workplace.
It will help in spreading positivity in the workplace, which is very important in today’s stressful work environment. Fifthly, it will help in proper understanding about implementation of discipline in a workplace culture.
