Introduction
Statistics from the ABS show that in Australia today, the number of professionals holding union tickets has increased. The number of union members whose occupation is listed as "manager" (89,900) or "professional" (543,300) easily exceeds the total number of unions recorded as trade or technical workers, sales, or sales personnel (195,200). , Machine operator, or driver (138,600) or labor (146,800). The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that the number of members of the union has fallen to 28% of the total workforce, compared to only 40% in 1992.

There are many reasons for employees to join the union; nevertheless, three main aspects are obvious. They are; dissatisfied with the financial aspects of work; hope to manipulate those aspects of a work environment in a union-oriented way; and believe that the advantages of unionism exceed the expected expenses (Deery & De Cieri, 2013). Obviously, with the benefits of union goals, why has the number of Australian union members decreased? There are many reasons for the decrease in membership; however, three key aspects stand out. And they are; changes in the composition of employment; accidental effects of the business cycle; as well as the introduction of agreements. Changes in the composition of service are related to changes in the structure of the labor force. In the labor class where the number of union members is relatively low, job growth usually becomes greater, while employment in the highly unionized labor class decreases. Several employment growths occurred in the 1980s & 1990s were restricted to the private segment, whose union density was much lesser than that of the public sector.
