Evaluating the Perspective of a Practitioner

Practitioners may work within an organization as leaders or internal consultants, or they may find employment from outside an organization as consultants, coaches, or subject matter experts. Following completion of your degree, do you anticipate working inside of an organization as an employee or outside as a consultant or expert advisor? How will your relationship with the organization, team, or individuals with whom you are working influence your professional judgment and decision making?

For your initial discussion post, examine the relative advantages and disadvantages of working from a position within an organization andfrom a position external to an organization. Briefly describe the three research models reviewed by Brannick and Coghlan (2007). Consider the impact that a practitioner’s position has on his or her:

  • objectivity

  • access to information

  • ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

Your initial post (due on Day 3) should beat least 350 words and should reference at least two different academic sources.
