Individual Case Assignment Instructions The purpose of this assignment is to identify and apply OM (Operations Management) concepts/tools to solve operational problems and improve operational performance. To this purpose, you should find an interesting operational problem from the real business world and think about how you can apply the OM concepts/tools that you learned in this course to solve the problem. More specifically, you should: · Find an operational problem from the real business world (from your own work or from any company) · Identify specific OM (Operations Management) concepts/tools that can be applied to the problem · Apply an appropriate OM concept/tool or a set of appropriate OM concepts/tools to propose a solution to the problem · Analyze the expected results that may be obtained when the solution is implemented. This section should also include a comparison between best and worst scenarios of the potential outcomes. The report should be 10 pages in length including the cover and appendices, with 1” margins on all sides, double-spacing, and 12-point font. The cover of the report should include title, class code and name, section number, your full name, and date of completion. The report must follow the outline below: 1. Executive summary (no more than one page) · Summarize what is the operational problem, what OM concepts/tools have been applied to the problem, and what are the expected results of the proposed solution. 2. Background information · Clearly state whether the operational problem is from your own work or from business articles/cases. In any business unit there are certain organizational problems occur. These kinds of organizational problems are faced on daily basis and thus it leads to the inefficiency and faulty works. This could lead to the organization with loss and thus this can lead to the organization on a verge of closure. Basically, the organizational problems are caused because of both internal and external factors. Delaying in the delivery and the degrading quality of the railway tracks are the main operational problems in the company. There is a huge rush for the production and that supposedly has led to thesis problems. In this report, the organizational tool that will be used for solving the organizational problem is the six-step problem-solving model. With the analysis of the problem, the alternate solution will be found. According to the solution, if more employees are recruited then it will curb the huge pressure on the production and the quality will not be compromised at all.

2. Background Information
The company that will be talked about in this report is AECOM Australia. This is a huge railway manufacturer company. This is initially an American company but it has been expanded to Australia and since then it has acquired a lot of recognition in the railway production field.  As of the recent statistics there are over 50000 employees associated with the company itself and that is the reason why this company can be considered as a huge company in the country. This report will discuss about the different operational problems that the company has been facing in the recent years. 
In the organization, where I am working, it is facing certain kinds of organizational problems. The organization, in which I am working, is a manufacturing company and they deal with the production of railway tracks. As there is a continuous demand in the supply of the railway tracks, there will be a rush in the production of the railway tracks as to be always available to meet the deadline for the production and release of the consignment.
The company has started their journey for almost sixty years back. They are the one of the major suppliers of the railway tracks and they have a consistent record of meeting their deadline and maintaining their quality. In almost all the major stretches, which carries important trains and fast moving trains, these tracks are used, as they are known for offering strength, ductility and the ability to handle high speed trains of up to maximum 200 kilometers / hour.
The company has been awarded with the best safety manufacturing of the railway tracks, which provided a safety along with the strength to handle all kinds of weather conditions. The company has a record of having efficient workforce and that has led to the good reputation in the market and a big association with the market operators.
3. Description of the Problem
With the growth of the company, there will always be operational issues that will follow with the growth of the company. Suriyarach (2019) has further discussed that many a times the problems become so complex that the companies fails to solve those issues and that is messed up badly. Therefore, it is ideal that the identification of the problem must be done beforehand, as that will avoid the uncertainty in the business.
There are different kinds of operational problems, which could lead to the disruption in work, leading the company to suffer a huge loss and there will be loss of business reputation for the future business perspective. Berchicci, Dutt and Mitchell (2019) have discussed that there are a number of operational issues that ranges from technical to the management level or to the group level to the individual level. The organization is facing two major problems, which are leading to the serious issues such as the monitoring of the performance and finding the right staffs for the organization. These two problems are the members of the same family. As the monitoring of the problems is not done properly, there are many employees who lack the knowledge and the potential within them to deliver the proper amount of work. As they do not have the proper knowledge, they are unable to recognize the proper materials like the railways shafts and it is eventually degrading the quality of the railway tracks produced by them. 
The company had the reputation of maintain the quality of the railway tracks along with the delivery of the tracks on time. However from last few years, the quality of the tracks have degraded and there is huge delay in delivery of the consignment, which is creating a huge suffering of the reputation of the company.
