For this assignment, you will be using the data tools available at
UCR Data Tool. Select “Go to the table-building tool” and then use the “Agencies, by State” option to identify two cities of interest to you. (If a city is not available in the database, make a different selection.) When presented with the option, select “Single agency reported crime” as you research each city so that you can examine multiple variables over multiple years. Examine the property and violent crime rates in recent years for both cities. (Rates account for population size, typically by reflecting the number of crimes per 100,000 in the population.) Based on what you find, complete the following:

  1. Summarize the overall trends in violent and property crime rates for each city.

  2. Compare and contrast the two cities’ rates and trends: What similarities do you see between the cities, and what differences?

  3. Applying information that you learned In this unit, what are some possible explanations for any differences in rates/trends between the two cities?

  4. Applying information that you learned in this unit, what are some possible explanations for the trends over time in each city—has crime increased or decreased in each location, and what might account for those changes?

  5. Assess whether these statistics provide enough information to generate ideas for crime reduction. Explain your answer.

Your completed assignment should be completed in a Microsoft Word document and contain approximately 1,000 words of polished text. The document should be double-spaced with Times New Roman 12pt font and 1” margins. While you will not be required to include citations for the crime data that you draw from the UCR website, if you incorporate any wording, ideas, or facts aside from the data requested above, you should cite in proper APA format.

Property crime in the United States incorporates all instances of theft or unlawful destruction of property in the absence of force or threat of
force against a victim. As with the rate of violent crime, the property crime rate in the United States has dropped dramatically since 1990. Of the different forms of property crime, larceny-theft is the most common in the U.S. with over 5.2 million reported cases in 2018. Among such cases, theft of items from motor vehicles is the most common type. Interestingly, survey data shows that although crime rates have continued to drop, a majority of Americans have persistently believed that there was more crime in the current year than the year before.
· Larceny-theft accounted for 71.7 percent of all property crimes in 2017. Burglary accounted for 18.2 percent, and motor vehicle theft for 10.0 percent.
· Property crimes in 2017 resulted in losses estimated at $15.3 billion.
The necessary points to be noted are given to follow from the backdrop.
Our basic intersest here lies in the fact of studying both the cities where in each city we are interested on the no of crime rates as well as the no of property rates and also to see whether there is a correlation between these acts among themselves or across the cities .
We have made scatterplot for understanding the pattern of growth as well as we did boxplot for understanding the skewness and kurtosis of the criminal acts of the two different cities .
We did a study on R after collecting data from UCR data tool .
In the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, property crime includes the offenses of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The object of the theft-type offenses is the taking of money or property, but there...
