The data for this study were gathered over the period of two to four year in a private college and it is possible that variations in attrition and other factors over time were missed. Because of the study's cross-sectional design, a causal link between attrition and the other factors cannot be established (McGregor, 2017). In the study, the author has clearly stated the limitation of the research in both qualitative and quantitative parts.
The current study by Laurent (2012) made use of a convenience sample of students from a single university. The demographics of the research sample reflect those of the institution as a whole, providing a unique viewpoint to the literature. However, the sample may not have represented the entire spectrum of student perspectives and may not be generalizable to all other settings due to its size.
