Organisation: Ford. Issue: Loss of market share in the U.S. and in the world. The loss of market share and vehicle sales since 2002 as the graph below illustrates is causing Ford to close many plants around the world as part of their global downsizing plan. According to Bloomberg (2019), Ford will reduce from 24 plants to 18 in Europe by 2020, eliminating 20% of their workforce on the region. Graph 1: Ford Motor Company's vehicle sales market share in the United States from 2002 to 2018. The use of system thinking to solve the identified problems of Ford is indicated because as a global corporation, with products such as vehicles and trucks, its problems impacts on many companies, customers and workers. It’s necessary to have a whole view of its impacts and consequences in order to prevent major impacts on their stakeholders. Initially it will be used a Soft System Methodology (SSM) in order to better understand the problem. The CATWOE analysis is an SSM which consists of qualitative analysis that helps understand the different perspectives of the issue, which is very important in this scenario, providing the means to resolve the issue. Following we have the results: Customers: People over 18 years old. Actors: Owners, Managers, employees and customers. Transformation: Customer needs for transportation, work or leisure satisfied. World View: Ford is operating in a fast-changing industry where cost-effectiveness and electric technologies are a must. Owners: Institutional investors hold around 60% of the company and the general public holds next to 40%. Environment: Plants, workforce, technological development. The system is affected by many regulatory authorities such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), located in the U.S., for safety standards in the auto industry and transportation and the global technical regulations (GTRs), for improving global safety and decreasing environmental pollution and consumption of energy (AllGov, 2019). Root Definition Ford is a car industry company owned by institutional investors and general public and operated by employees and managers that satisfies the needs of customers for transportation, work and leisure, constrained by their existing infrastructure, workforce and regulatory authorities, affecting the manufacturing of cost-effective and desired products. Proposition Now the we have a better understanding of the issue, we are able to provide a more complete solution to resolve the problem. From the graph bellow, we can observe how the electric car is disrupting the auto industry. Graph 2: Mid-sized premium sedans market share in the U.S. Source: Electrek (2019) In order to remain competitive in the changing car industry, Ford needs to review its current infrastructure. The plan to close 25% of their plants in Europe by 2020, according to Bloomberg (2019), shows that they are making decisions on that direction. It’s very important to mitigate the issues caused by downsizing to their workers, assisting in their reallocation to other jobs, but this decision is critical for their future. Also, it’s very important to invest in technology, in order to update their remaining plants to allow the production of electric cars. As we can see on the image bellow, the electric car industry is continuously growing and gaining market from petrol-based car industries. Image 1: U.S. automakers ranked by market cap. Holistic Proposal Name: Lubna Urruj Student ID: 00262067T Subject code: MGT603 Lecturer name: Dr Arezou PourMirza There has been an escalation in the competition amongst banks globally, where common wealth bank has been struggling with significant loss of customers, to overcome this issue, the bank introduced an incentive system for its employees to retain their existing customers and bring in new customers. Accepting new paradigms are critical to progressing logical information. However, the importance of leadership within its contemporary period of existence, finds it difficult to diminish its contribution. Leadership makes or breaks organizations as every facet of leadership should be scrutinized to have a powerful effective leadership that can be appropriately escalated. As an operations manager one must broaden their horizon by analysing existing facts in various spectrums. As considering broader perspectives of paradigms and situating leadership appropriately and planning an effective strategy within that massive scientific discourse can help us overcome the loss of customers by the bank. Bernard Charles Henry (2013). The theory of Trade off has given an insight to central operations strategy as it forms the foundation of improvement process. The significance of trade-offs is governed by 2 factors in any operation: · The intensity of the trade-off that it will impact the overall competitiveness of the operations strategy. · The sensitivity of the trade off as it shows the degree of change that is caused to one element when alterations are done to others. Swamidass, P. (2001). As an operations manager it is very important for us to formulate the strategy by putting forward the primary task and assessing core competencies to the employees and positioning the team and deploying the strategy to regain the customers in the market hence it is very important to guide the employees and provide them with incentives and put forward the following strategy. Russell, R.S. & Taylor, B.W. (2011). CATWOE Analysis and mind maps can help us solve the problem using different six unique perspectives. The six elements that are to be considered in a CATWOE analysis are as follows – · Customers · Actors · Transformation Process · World View · Owner · Environmental Constraints Strategy Customization is an essential essence of modern banking, we can create tailored offers that perfectly and efficiently matches the expectations of our target users. Honesty and clarity- As most of the customers discontinue the service due to promised expectations that are not delivered, therefore it is very important for us to show honesty and clarity and inform about the hidden costs and extra transaction fees in the service we deliver to our customers. Surprise clients occasionally with an unexpected gesture by being polite and take customer service to another level. Offer VIP services for existing customers as this retention tactic can help the customers feel unique and exclusive. Creating top-notch email newsletters to earn professional reputation to win the clients trust. Offering time-bound promotion offers to drive engagement. The role of manufacturing and marketing managers in strategy development: lessons from three companies. Part A- Proposal Werribee Mercy Hospital is a private general hospital located in Werribee, south western region of Melbourne, that provides both public and private services with a broad range of services including surgical, mental health, emergency and so on. This provides range of both acute and community psychiatric services to the people. Despite, of providing services to people, in current situation it is facing several issues. Staff shortage is one of the main problems at present in this hospital. Article published in THE AGE mentioned that, this hospital has left maternity ward unsafe for women giving birth as it is chronically understaffed that vulnerable people are going without critical mental health support. Also, lack of resources, unfilled job vacancies had significantly dropped down the staff numbers. Not only this, the team are in crisis, and agencies are used during short staffing. However, many of staffs are not equipped with skills or do not have experienced to deal in crisis or in emergency situation (THE AGE, 2016). Health care staffs such as doctors and nurses often need to work long hours and sometime double duties due to lack of health workforce that leads to very stressful conditions for staffs. These can leads to fatigue, job dissatisfaction and finally results injury to both staffs and patient that might increase mortality rate. Moreover, nurses are more likely to make mistakes and medical errors that leads to bad outcome resulting poor service quality to patient, complications and increases mortality rate ( Marangu, E. 2010). The above mentioned issues can be solved with a help of system thinking approach like for inadequate staffs that is shortage of health workforce in hospitals can be short out by job recruitment. Same with gaps in service or unequipped skills or experiences of staffs can be solved by arranging training or giving training to the staffs. Exposure to the new technologies and training how to operate those should also be given so it can help to reduce service gaps. In the same way, awareness programs regarding mental illness should be given mainly to those staffs that are coming from agencies; hence, can reduce fatal conditions in hospitals. Managing resources plays a crucial role in hospital operations. Thus, all the resources such as bed shortage, funding, other equipment should be made available by hospital management team. Also, to find the gaps and shortage in hospitals, leaders can assess both mission and vision of the organization and align their skills with effective objectives and strategy to mitigate those issues in this hospital (Shaban, 2012). Hi Rajinder! I went through the prop
osal shared by you on Discussion forum. Regarding the solution which you had suggested to the Bank in order to deal and overcome its issue of losing out its customers to the competitors, I found it quite satisfactory in terms of theoretical and conceptual knowledge shared. You have discussed about the holistic approach that the concept of Systems Thinking carries with itself, along with providing a brief in about the Rich Picture Theory, which is one of the tools of systems thinking. Additionally, you also gave us some insight on the policies that the Bank might consider adopting with the idea of dealing with its customer related issue.
But, Rajinder, to my notice, you have not discussed about the incentive system that the Bank may consider introducing to its employees as a motivational tool to attract more customers.
There are certain incentive systems that the Organizations use in order to motivate their employees so that their productivity can be effectively boosted for exceptional performance. Such incentive systems are categorized into (“Incentive Systems- an evaluation of the Motivational Model for rewards”):
Monetary incentive plan: It includes cash incentives, increase in salary, bonus, employee stock...
