The branch of mathematics that deals with random experiments is known as probability theory. Th
e mathematical foundation for the study of random phenomena, or events whose outcome cannot be predicted ahead of time, is provided by probability theory. Tossing a coin or rolling a die are two examples of random experiments. Although the exact outcome of a coin flip is uncertain, the possible outcomes are known (heads or tails). The basic idea is that the outcomes contain some form of randomness that the experimenters are unable to resolve.(ROHATGI et al., 1970)
