Introduction
This assessment task is the two of two tasks you are required to complete as part of this unit for the unit SHBXWHS002 Provide a safe work environment.
Student must read the Assessment Policy available at www.aischool.edu.au:
 
Some important information about assessment completion is:
· Students must attempt all the questions within an assessment, otherwise a Not Yet Satisfactory (NYS) will be given. Unanswered questions will cause the assessment to result as NYS.
· Assessments that are not received by their DUE dates or attempted will be resulted as Not Attempted (NA) and count as an attempt.
· Students can only submit their Third and make Final attempt during Re-Assessment in Week 12 of the Term the unit was delivered.
· Students who have not attempted the assessments and as a result do not achieve a Competent (C) result for the unit delivered in a term are required to redo the unit.
· Students who are required to re-do a unit may have to extend the duration of their COE at their own expense and that application themselves.

    There are five (5) activities required for this Project/ Portfolio.
This task is designed to provide you with the opportunity to showcase the knowledge you have gained as you have studied the unit SHBXWHS002 Provide a safe work environment.
You are required to research and then write answers to the activity questions presented in the following assessment task. These questions pertain specifically to ability to establish and review systems, policies and procedures designed to ensure a safe workplace.
Assessment context
This assessment is a project to be completed by you, in class time.
As you have gained enough knowledge about the subject matter, you are to compile a Portfolio together that addresses all five activities.
Your participation in this assessment task is compulsory. Should you fail to complete the assessment or if you are concerned that illness or other issues has impacted on your ability to meet the minimum requirements for this assessment, contact your assessor immediately to discuss it with them.

TEACHER INSTRUCTIONS
1. You may have the students work in groups of two or work on their own.
2. Student may use the Meeting Minutes and Policies and Procedures Templates provided at the end of this assessment or use their own.
3. The student will need to upload their work for points 1 through to 5 into Moodle for final marking.
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS:
1. You Trainer will either have you complete this Project as a group or as an individual.
2. There are five (5) Activities that you will need to complete and present as a finale Portfolio.
3. You can use the templates provided for meeting minutes and policies or you may use your own.
4. You will need to save your portfolio and upload into Moodle for final marking.
5. Once competed compile your WHS portfolio of evidence together for this project and upload to your Student Portal under “Provide a Safe Work Environment”. Clearly label your file name as follows; Student Name_WHS_ProjectC_Date.pdf.
Activity 1
Arrange a time to meet with the Manager at your AIS Student Salon or an approved AIS Partner Salon.
You will need to use this meeting to set up and plan a “WHS Consultation Strategy”.
Your role will be to facilitate the meeting, and in consultation with the meeting participants, identify what WHS requirements are to be implemented for each of your policy and procedures, as per the requirements below in respect to the AIS Student Salon or an AIS Partner Salon
You are then required to create the following documentation in respect to the AIS Student Salon or AIS Partner Salon.

Brief of the Meeting
The function of the salon manager and his responsibilities about the health and safety in the salon.
Requirements of the training on the use of the various instruments and equipment in the salon regarding the electrical equipment and the aspects that are prominent to keep the firefighting equipment in an effective position so that it can be used anytime and anywhere. The training needs to be given with regards to the effective use of the equipment.
Discussion about the housing facilities and the aspects that need to be followed regarding the use of the materials and the placement of the materials.
Special care and other aspects that are related to the handling and applying of the Chemicals from the hair with the use of protective gloves and electrons that are available and that should be used all the time.
Training about the accidents that needs to be conducted in order to ensure that they are effective safe working conditions. Updating of the accidents book and the report to the salon manager.
Relevant communication and other policies that need to be followed in terms of changes in the health and safety at the work policy.
The prominent aspects that should be taken into account when there are incidents of injuries or any other accidents in the salon.
Training with regards to the manual handling that involves more than just safe lifting principles.
Training about the uses of the personal protection equipment and the aspects that are effective for the safety and the consideration of the workers. 
Discussion
The legal obligation that needs to be content in the workplace and seek and maintain a safe possible work environment. This can template the aspects that are effective in terms of following the guidelines and the effective conduction amongst the workers in such a way that the employees in the salon do not endanger themselves for the customers or any other employees in the salon. Salon will be effective in providing the training aspects in terms of the health and safety during the induction programme and this additional training is required by the employees whenever the salon introduces new work practices or any new types of equipment.
The Salon manager is responsible for the health and safety of the salon and this needs to be taken into account as an introduction of the detailed context of the environment in the workplace. The training program must be associated in terms of the housekeeping aspects and the fire prevention aspects that must be used in the organization in terms of handling the goods and the other requirements in the salon. Special care needs to be taken in terms of mixing, applying and removing any care chemicals from hair or skin. Protective gloves and aprons are available and they must be used all the time with the special attention to the skin care policy. It is also effective to consider the accident hook and reference of the accident book must be maintained by the salon manager with an effective communication policy in terms of changes in the health and safety requirements in the workplace.

Aims
The aim of the induction program is to develop an understanding of the principles of Health and safety at the work within a salon. This will effectively introduce the overarching legislation and the effective way to explore the measures that are designed to protect the health and safety of the people in the workplace and it includes the staff, visitors, and members of the public. This will also focus on developing the knowledge of how to recognise the hazards and the associated risks along with the understanding of the skills that are required to manage a safe and hygienic work environment that meets the necessary regulations and the legislation requirements.

The induction programme is effective enough for the expected following outcomes:

Importance of Health & Safety
Health and safety are important to keep people and safe and prevent them from harm. The main purpose of the various laws and the legislation is to ensure health, safety and welfare of people is a priority. These laws apply to all working environments including hair and beauty salons and to self-employed and mobile hairdressers and beauty therapists. Health and safety law applies to everyone in the workplace:
Employees have the responsibility to provide and maintain a safe working environment and welfare facilities and every employee is responsible to follow those developing policies and standards for the normal operating procedures that are guided in the safe practices.
Employees must provide safe working systems.
