In this activity, you will do three things: prepare visuals that present the same information five different ways, create a unique visual of your own, and reflect on the graphics you have created. So that you don’t have to search for all the data, I have included a data set about Tesla stock trades from Feb 2022 to Feb 2023. First: Your first task is to prepare data “five ways" for a data set. You will create 5 slides. The slides will have a simple format called the Assertion Evidence Structure: • On the top of the slide, write a sentence (no more than two lines of text on the slide) that makes a claim about the data; this is functionally the same thing as the "Big Idea" we talked about before. • On the bottom of the slide, include a visualization of the data to support the claim. Each will address the same idea, just presented in five ways. That said, you will keep the same top sentence for each of the five slides, just the bottom visual will change. This will give you a chance to compare and contrast different versions of the same data visualization. Keep in mind best practices for removing visual clutter and using a big enough font size. For your slides, I would like you to discuss one piece of information from a data set of your choosing. You can use the Tesla data, or you can use something else. Each set of five slides should have one for each of the following: A. Table B. Heatmap C. Line D. Bar E. Choose your own; different from above. Other examples include waterfall, scatter plot, simple text, etc. (Note: If you use this simple text, you can change the sentence to reflect the piece of information you'd like to highlight) Second: I would like you to create one more slide about something of your own choosing, different from the first set. It can be about anything you find in the data that you think is interesting. You will provide the declarative sentence on top that is the point of the slide, and you will create a graphic of your choosing to best illustrate this point. Third: I would like you to write a short reflection comparing and contrasting the different types of visualizations from your original set of five (what are the strengths and what are the weaknesses) and explain your rationale for your final slide. Use information from the book. (It doesn't need to be longer than just a few pages.) You will have a total of 6 slides (5 from example one, and 1 more of your own), plus a written reflection on a separate document. Submit the slides and reflection separately (i.e., one PowerPoint and one document). Attached: I've added a successful example from a previous student of one comparative slide set. You don't need to copy this exactly, but I thought it worked well for this assignment.
