Final Project: Children’s recognition of emotion in music and speech
A research was conducted by a group of experts in emotional r
ecognition among a group of children within the age group of 6 to 7 years. This was to analyse and evaluate the children’s recognition of emotions such as fear, surprise, speech, surprise, sorrow, neutral expression and happiness. The three stimuli used to recognize the emotions of the children were regions of mouth, eyes and the entire face.
Research Methods
There were 50 children within the age group of 6-7 years who participated from a primary school in Sicily, Italy. There was equal gender diversity among these children. None of the children were suffering from any kind of mental disorder or any pervasive developmental disorder like delays in progress of communication skills and socialization. After taking proper consent from the parents and the teachers of the children, the methodology of conducting the emotional recognition research and its purpose was explained in detailed to the children. Three teachers of the primary school were considered as a part of the team of experts.
