Disruptive innovation is an approach toward the invention of a technology and a business model that focuses on inventing something new. This generates a new product in the market and disrupts the others that are existing in the market. This innovation is accomplished through a combination of uncovering new categories of customers and lowering the cost that enhancing the quality of the existing market (Al-Imarah et al.). This has been effectively contemplated by utilizing new technology and exploiting the old technologies in new and improved methods. The examples of disruptive innovation that will be discussed are Netflix and Uber.
Netflix
Netflix is a disruptive innovation because it has been a new product in the entertainment industry that was founded for streaming media and video on demand online. The entertainment industry was previously dominated by CD, DVD, television, and cinema hall. But this particular aspect was a breakthrough innovation in the entertainment industry as its focus on disruptive technology aspects and change the TV shows and movies to the user. This brought the movies and the TV shows into a single platform and extensively transformed the way the people use to watch entertainment.
The reason for Netflix is being disruptive is that when it first launched its services it also provided the male in subscription services it did not go after the core customers of competitors like blockbusters. The customers rented new releases on demand which Netflix did not provide its uses (Christensen et al.). This particular product was a trademark of disruption because targeted a segment of the population that has been noticed by its competitors and delivered in a substandard and a more custom-made alternative which available at a lower price.
