I do and I understand.“ – Attributed to Confucius, around 500BC This subject requires you to thoughtfully develop your abilities in coaching and mentoring, and in weeks 8-11 we will be exploring the styles and techniques involved in doing this. These skills will serve you well in many facets of your life. To assist with developing your skills, you will be interacting with your fellow students or other people in your life to sharpen your abilities, allow you to observe others and receive assistance so you can learn to work meaningfully with others in the future. Each week, you will be presented with a scenario and take the roles of mentor/ coach, observer and employee through in-class role plays. The purpose of this assessment is for you to demonstrate and develop your knowledge and skill in mentoring and coaching as an evidence-based people development technique within organisations. Assessment Description Each week, you will be presented with a scenario and you will have the opportunity to take the role of a mentor, coach, observer or employee through in class or online discussion/ role plays. In doing so, you will be required to write a reflection or review of the experience of being involved in this exercise as mentor, coach, observer or employee of around 500 words. Over the following weeks you will be able to assemble three of these reviews as you engage in the week’s exercises, bringing your work to a total for this task of 1500 words. If you are taking this course online, your lecturer/facilitator can assist you to work on this with other classmates online, or you may opt to engage others in your immediate environment such as a friend, work colleague or family member. Assessment Instructions Further guidance: • This is an individual assessment to be uploaded into Turnitin. • You are to write 1500 words, composed of 500 words for three different activities over any three of the four weeks mentioned. • You are expected to use references also to strengthen your understanding of the theoretical bases of your work. • As with all scholarly work, relevant citing and referencing is essential in a presentation. This assignment is due in Week 13 (one week after completion of formal classes). The interaction with the students goes very well as I am very conscious about interacting with the fellow coachees. The coachees are very interested in learning for their skill development. A good coaching needs a skilled coach, who has coaching mindset. Therefore,
I have adapted the coaching mindset to provide the best training to my fellow coachees. I have set up the coaching mindset attaining some specific characteristics. I have taken initiative to build a strong relation with each coachee of different groups. Coachees interact well with such coaches, who are caring towards their coachees. Coaches, who adapt coaching mindset, interact regularly with the coachees through their common interests. Therefore, I always try to interact with my coachees on a regular basis through the common interests I share with them. I focus on the constant development of my coachees over time and give them chances to develop them. I help them to take enhanced duties and responsibilities to increase their capabilities for their personal development. I have always tried to be kind and supportive towards the employees so that they can trust me completely and can ask for any help without any hesitation. I have been sympathetic towards them so that can follow my commands in any situation. I have created a safe environment, where the employees can learn new skills. I share my experiences of my failures and how I can learn my mistakes through lessons to prolong their urge for learning. I have formed 7 groups on the basis of reliability of the employees towards their managers. Reliability of the employees towards the coaches such as managers is the most important feature in the coaching relationship. If the employees do not rely on their managers then they will not be able to understand the organisational objectives. Therefore, they will not be urged to achieve the organisational goals. They will not get to learn new skills for the personal development if they do not rely on their managers. Therefore, their personal growth will be stagnant. Hence, the purpose of conducting coaching for their personal development will go in vain. Thus, I always try to be reliable to my coachees so that they can trust me completely and learn through the lessons given in the coaching for their personal development. I have conducted an argument about the advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting between my groups. I have seen that most of the groups are interested in telecommuting as they feel that telecommuting is much more comfortable than coming to the office. They feel that it is great to work from their zone of comforts. They also state that telecommuting saves their money on transportation. On the other hand few groups are against of telecommuting....
