Scenario—ABC International, Inc.


The chief executive officer (CEO) of ABC International, Inc. has hired you as the external consultant to assess the steps required to help HR align with the organization, create employee value, and give the organization a competitive advantage.


For this project, use a previous or present employer; however, the name of the organization will remain anonymous. In lieu of the organization’s name, insert ABC International, Inc. This organization will be used in weeks 1-3. The CEO realizes that changes need to occur. Implementing an organization wide strategic plan will give the organization a competitive advantage and prevent rightsizing.

There are many firms that have entered into the market that makes it challenging to differentiate the services based on the client requirement. With strong leadership and intellectual capital, ABC has pivoted their business strategy based on external environment and market dynamics. For instance, investment on Digitization to emerge Analytics, social media and Cloud Services outsourcing.
There are many problems associated with the business of ABC not only in the domestic market but also in the global industry. It is India's fourth-largest software and service exporter who is now facing issues because of massive competition in the market. The growth of business can be compromised since there are many new start-ups that are entering in this space. Furthermore, the quantum of employee-base that ABC supports is large making the bottom-line shrink relative to a mobile industry.
Second major issues and business challenge that ABC is facing is slow decision making because of highly bureaucratic nature of the work-culture. Due to their slow decision-making process the company has missed many business opportunities like late entrant in the 5G space. The industry in which ABC is operating is highly dynamic and volatile. Hence, it is important to be innovative and grab the first mover advantage.
