Gilligan thinks that women's moral development differs from men's due to the several reasons that are considerably associated with it. Some of them include-
· The main reason which Gilligan implied it was according to her woman is the one for whom taking care of others and adjusting themselves as per the others are the main priority. She addresses that women tend to think about everyone before they would think about themselves that clearly indicating that the moral development that follows is quite distinct. While she also feels that men are not among the ones who substantially channelize care as an essential part of life. She discussed that unlike the women men did not base and focus on their decisions on the verge of care and any such substantial aspect that is the reason the sense of moral development among both of them are considerably different. As the women are associated with their mother for a longer time frame they also possess ethics of care while the men possess justice of care as the main reason behind their moral development (Mauthner, 2020).
· Another reason why Gilligan emphasizes that women's moral development differs from men's moral development is that the women follow and prioritize the ethics of care while the man prominently focuses on the ethics of justice. The focus of women is primarily on care as compared to justice. She clearly described in her studies that the women would be looking ahead to the options that would be deliberately based upon the compromises and the adjustment as they did not want to hurt the people that are generally associated with them. While for men she considers that they believe in and prioritizes the ethics of justice that imply what is right should sustain and what is wrong should be treated accordingly.
