Quality Level and Competition in term of education and standard of living in INDIA
The Indian education system has witnessed numerous changes in the recent past. There is significant increase in the number of education institutes offering graduate and post graduate programs in m
anagement and other fields. The Indian government has also liberalised the pace of education since 1990s which has resulted in the rapid growth of education institutes thereby increased competition level (Agarwal, 2009). It has also identified that Indian education institutes have introduced several adaptations for fostering improved level skills to the students and preparing them for handling future in improved manner. The main reason behind this is the evolving demand of business environment forcing education institutions to adopt practices making sense in both short run and long run. The adoption of such practices considerably improved overall quality level of education system.
Standard of living in another phenomenon varies among place, region and states. India is positioned as a large and global consumer economy growing at the growth rate of 7.6% in 2015 (Joseph & Viswanathan, 2016). As per the statistics presented by Deutsche Bank, there are around 30 million and 300 million middle class people in the country. In this context, it is claimed by NCAER that middle class population in India is estimated at 267 million in 2016 and likely to increase in the coming time evidencing prevalence of medium standard of living in the country (Joseph & Viswanathan, 2016).
Quality Level and Competition in term of education and standard of living in INDIA
The phenomenon of quality is highly elusive and indistinct construct in service sectors. In general terms, it is understood as conformance to specifications, i.e., performance, features, reliability, serviceability and perceived quality of education system. Spanbauer has defined quality in education as a management philosophy integrating systems and processes in place for meeting and exceeding expectations of students. It is considered as a relentless quest of continuous improvement featuring good leadership practices and problem solving abilities. In application to education sector, it is very difficult or impossible to monitor and measure quality. The quality determinants in context to education are quality of students, quality of faculty, resources, focus on faculty development, and student participation in governance (Shahaida, Rajashekar & Nargundkar, 2011).
