Task Description:
This individual assessment item provides students with an opportunity to critically reflect on a clinical decision making case study. Each student has to select a clinical case scenario. You are required to work through the clinical decision making cycle and examine the process of clinical reasoning. You are expected to explore the case study and the decisions that occurred.
1. Critically analyze this decision making process using the clinical reasoning cycle (Levett- Jones 2012). This means that you are expected to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the decision making process used in your chosen clinical scenario, using the clinical reasoning cycle. You are also required to incorporate recommendations for improvement based on current research and, if relevant, the national competency standards for the registered nurse.
2. Critically reflect on the decision making process. This means you need to reflect upon your experience of this situation and identify and discuss your reflections on the clinical decisions (you may use a reflection model to guide this process e.g. Gibbs). Your essay needs to clearly demonstrate a critically reflective and evaluative approach to practice, which means that you need to consider both the negative and positive aspects of your care and what aspects you would change for future practice.
