TQM is a concept which defined in the following ways: An evolving system of practices, tools and training methods which are developed by the industry experts and is used to create high standard products and services w
hich increases the customer satisfaction in the world that is rapidly changing.
The Total Quality management perspective decides the way in which the products are tested for the quality.
The key concepts in the TQM effort undertaken by the Navy in the 1980s include(Dale, B. G., Papalexi, M., Bamford, D., & van der Wiele, A. (2016).)
· "Customer requirements define the quality of the project."
· "Top management has direct responsibility for quality improvement."
· "Systematic analysis of the work process lead the way for TQM."
· "Quality improvement is a continuous effort and conducted throughout the organization."
There are multiple variants in Total Quality Management system and a few of them are mentioned below –
· Continuous improvement – A proactive approach in which the quality of the product can be improved by continuous operations on it and the services too can be improved by minimizing defects, introducing technology and R&D
· Customer focus – There are 2 departments in which the TQM can focus, external and internal clients. The external clients are the businesses and the internal clients are the departments of our business.
· Team involvement – From leadership level to lowest level, every employee plays an important role in continuous improvement of the product and the services. To increase team building activities, organization provides training and development to staff to create teamwork atmosphere where everyone works in collaboration and empower workers to take initiative to improve process and quality of product and service.
· Prevention is key – In every project, after the project comes into rework, the cost is more. Hence preventing the damages by applying TQM is the best step
The new management program is the perfect fit for the TQM. It can be said that TQM is a sociological experiment on the track of the new management paradigm.
There is a rule by the code ISO 8402: which defines the TQM methodology. The management approach of the organisation is focussed on the quality and the participation of all the members and aiming for the long term success through customer satisfaction and benefits to the members of the organisation and the society. .
Another organisation which is the British Quality Association (1989) defined TQM in the following ways: TQM is a management philosophy which recognises the customer needs and the goals for which the business is running is inseparable. It is appropriate within both industry and commerce
