Human diversity in workplace creates a richer flow of ideas and thus has the potential to inc
rease the creativity and innovation within the individual or the employees, which as a result can contribute to the organisational success. Diversity managements helps to increase the productivity, improve employee’s creativity, increase the profit range, improve employee engagement, reduce the employee turnover, improve cultural insight, which altogether improve the company’s reputation and brings progress. As stated by Akinnusi, Sonubi and Oyewunmi (2017), the main purpose of a diverse management is to enable all employees to reach their full potential in pursuit of organisation’s mission as well as objectives. As different employees come from diverse background and therefore approaches with different ideas and experiences, which if interchanged with each other within the workplace would give birth to a progressive outcome.
Bringing different ideas and perspectives leads to better problem solving. Working together in a diverse place with diverse team opens dialogue and promotes creativity. The value of diversity therefore increases the productivity, improves the quality of employee’s performance, increases the profit structure, improves the employee management and engagement, reduce the employee turnover, improves the culture insight and therefore lead an organisation towards success. In order to carry these diverse management aspects fruitfully and properly, some skills such as leadership qualities, communication skills, observation skills and interpersonal skills should be developed.
As stated by Williams (2017), some of the skills, which are required for both the employees as well as the organisation, are understanding and acceptance of managing diversity concept. Besides, they need self-awareness while understanding one’s own culture, identity, biases, prejudices and stereotypes, willingness to challenge and change institutional barriers in order to proceed towards the main objectives are in order to successfully deal with a diverse management in workplace. A workforce with disabled employees is a bit challenging for the management to tackle the matter effectively.
Through the development of these skills, organisation would understand that employing people who hold multiple perspectives. This would increase the need to mitigate the conflict between the workers from different identity group, enhance creativity as well as problem solving in team and even serve to create competitive advantage for the company.
