1. Introduction
Significance of the Research Area: Background and Rationale
Multinational companies (MNCs) have to operate on a global ground, so that they are able to cater to the international needs of business operations, irrespective of any country, wherein they function. As supported by Brannen et al. (2017), MNCs have an international perspective towards their performance, which is why they do not view their performance as an individual organisation, but amongst their global competitors. Hence, in order to meet that standard, they must have employees, who are internationally competent and capable to work in any country. Based on this scope, the present research project has been formulated, in order to identify the recruitment, selection and training needs of MNC employees.
As mentioned by Yin and Jamali (2016), since MNCs require operating flexibly, they need to recruit culturally and linguistically diverse employees. However, as argued by Adams et al. (2017), if human resource (HR) managers and recruiters lack the skills to identify suitable aspirants based on these grounds, they might not recruit a culturally competent employee. Moreover, the compatibility and cooperation amongst this diverse workforce can lead to disruption of working process, which makes training extremely important in MNCs (Peltokorpi and Vaara 2017). Hence, this research shed light upon the ways, in which these processes can be improved for meeting global needs.
Research Aim
The aim of this research is to identify ways of improvising selection, recruitment and training of MNC employees as per international standards.
Research Objectives
· To understand the concepts of recruitment, selection and training of employees
· To identify international requirements in human resource of MNCs
· To suggest suitable recommendations for improving recruitment, selection and training of MNC employees, so that they can meet international needs
Research Questions
· What are the processes of recruiting, selecting and training employees at MNCs?
· What are the international human resource requirements?
· How can the MNCs improve their recruitment, selection and training processes for their employees to make them internationally competent?
2. Literature Review
Recruitment
The literature by Wali et al. (2018) state that recruitment is the process of searching and gathering eligible aspirants for a particular job role, in such a way that only those, who can perform the related tasks properly, are hired. Hence, this paper has been reviewed for further information and for basing the key findings of the research. For reviewing the practical implications of this literature, the recruitment model and David Ulrich’s HR model have been analysed.
Selection
According to Gooderham et al. (2015), when candidates are assessed for being recruited, they need to be judged on certain grounds. Selection is the process, which enables the HR manager to identify the characteristics within the aspirants that would demarcate them from the others and help them get employment in the company. Hence, this paper provides a basic idea on the significance of selection method. For this purpose, the job-related environmental analysis model has been critically evaluated so that selection criteria could be...
