Unit 9 Assignment 2: Final Project - Create a Crime Prevention Program: Part 2

In Unit 8, you were to compare and contrast three current crime prevention programs that target juveniles and evaluate them. In Unit 9, you will complete Part 2 of that project. You will create a proposal for a new crime prevention program that targets juveniles and determine how you will evaluate its effectiveness. You may use elements of the three crime prevention programs you researched for your Unit 8 Assignment or come up with completely different components.

In the analysis of how your program will deter juvenile delinquency, you will want to use data from your three comparison programs to support your new program. For example, how many juveniles are enrolled in the program? In order to deliver the best programming possible for juveniles in the K–12 school system, calculate the optimal ratio of staff to the target population, based on the average ratio of the comparison programs.

Your analysis should specifically identify the data source and include a summary of the data.

In addition, you will want to specifically address how the data were used to inform your thinking on the development of your new program (i.e., how you used the data to solve a real-world problem).

Create a 13- to 15-slide PowerPoint presentation incorporating speaker notes to include the following:

  • Who is your target population, what are your goals, and how will your program be implemented?

  • Explain your program, detailing the elements of it and why it will be effective.

  • Describe how the program's effectiveness will be analyzed and how the objectives will be evaluated.

  • Specify how deterrence will be measured and what will be considered effective deterrence.

Include a reference and title slide.

Cite a minimum of three sources in your reference slide, using in-text citations in the presentation where appropriate.

Note:You may consult the Online Library, the Internet, the textbook, other course material, and any other outside resources in supporting your task, using proper citations in APA style.

Unit 9 Assignment 2: Final Project - Create a Crime Prevention Program: Part 2
Juvenile delinquency preventive programs are successful when they have alignment of goals with
the specific population targeted.
In fact, there can be as many dimensions as possible to ensure the success of these programs.
At the same time, multiple ways exist to design new projects against juvenile delinquency.
Introduction
Today, we are actually suffering from overpopulation in our jails. The continuously rising influx of non-violent drug offenders sentenced to serving time is one of the key reasons for this. In our country, drugs are a big issue, so we need to be constructive in our efforts to try and come up with interventions that would direct young people away from the initial use of drugs that could contribute to potential incarceration.
2
The goals of this project will be to increase awareness in delinquent youth and adolescent population living in the suburban areas of New York.
The main objective will be to reduce the number of cases registered for substance use through ensuring active involvement in community services.
Goals
There are several software that aim to do just that. In comparison to beginning substance use or a life of crime, these services concentrate on the youth to try and keep them captivated in healthier venues. Via crime reduction, these projects have had a great deal of success in the communities they are in.
3
The current project is guided by the principle that families and societies have equal role to play in the process of refining behaviors of delinquent juveniles.
Thus, a closely integrated network will be structured around the key stakeholders of the program, keeping the juveniles in the centre of it.
Project Details
The most successful initiatives are those that emphasize family experiences. These programs concentrate on offering skills to parents who are in the best position to supervise and train the child. The least successful are more conventional approaches that punish or aim to intimidate young people. Two important services are family-based strategies for young people on probation.
4
The project will be initiated by locating and tracing the suburban areas of New York where the number of cases registered for juvenile crimes (especially under the substance effects) are registered the most.
Once identification is complete, the program will take prior approval of Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) to establish youth support centers.
Project Details (Contd.)
Juvenile crimes and substance abuse are interlinked. There is a great need to understand and trace this concept because substance abuse encourages youth to do something which would not prefer when they are in full senses or under control of their reasoning. A step towards crime is taken, when they are highly addicted on substance. Thus, identification of such cases is necessary along with the prior approval of DYCD in order to run the support center.
5
These youth support centers will be similar to the post school support programs.
The support programs will pertain to conduct...
