It may help you to be familiar with the concept of poor governance, because this often plays a significant part in why a country is underdeveloped. According to the World Bank,
governance
is defined as how power is exercised in the management of a country's economic and social resources for development. Therefore, if
good governance
is synonymous with sound development management, then
poor governance
means a government has failed to deliver desirable outcomes for its people. This could mean that officials are corrupt, not transparent with their decisions, unqualified to make decisions in the first place, or prone to make decisions based on racism, tribalism or ethnicity — all of which are very common practices in LDCs.

The most common factor used to decide whether countries are underdeveloped nations is through the Human Development Index. Countries that are underdeveloped in nature offer poor health care, few educational opportunities, a low average life expectancy, a low number of job opportunities, few recreational facilities, poor economic growth, a low standard of living, and a poverty-stricken life.

Instructions:

Write at paper that is at least six (6) pages long in which you:

1. Identify the two LDCs (from the approved list) that you will compare and assess. Explain why you chose these two countries.

2. Analyze the features that the LDCs have in common using
at least five of the following nine factors
(clearly label the five factors using headings):

a. geography

b. extractive institutions

c. governmental corruption

d. internal or external conflicts

e. shaky financial systems

f. unfair judicial systems

g. ethnic, racial or tribal disparities

h. lack or misuse of natural resources

i. closed (statist) economies

Introduction
Difference between develop and under develop nation can be studied on different parameter; one of the parameters is Human development index. It is quite good and major indicator showing condition of the citizen is better or not. Other criteria to measure country’s development are GDP (Gross Domestic Product), PCI (Per Capita Income), PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) and welfare measures such as homeless people, medical infrastructure and education facility (Chaaban, Irani & Khoury, 2016). In this report, Human Development Index has been taken as a base to measure to decide whether country is underdeveloped or not.
1. Identification of the Less Developed Countries (LDCs) and Rationale for Choosing Them
The two chosen countries for this report are Uganda and Guatemala. Besides having different geographic location, countries have many more things in common. Both the countries have same religion ground, which is Christianity. Uganda has Population of 42,723,139, whereas Guatemala has Population of 42,723,139 people. Polity and poverty are somewhere also same, both countries have high corruption level and both nation are poor comparing GDP per capita.
Education is not only the social and economic problem but also an issue of national security. Both countries have modern law and noble policy but their execution on ground level is still poor, both countries are rich in natural resources. Despite having so much commonality, both countries have different development stories and that is the reason why I chose Uganda and Guatemala for my report.
2. Analyzing the Features that the Chosen LDCs have in Common
a. Geography
Guatemala is located in Central America. It shares its boundary with Mexico, southwest with Pacific Ocean, east with Caribbean Sea and southeast with El Salvador. Guatemala is an especially poor country in comparison to its northern neighbors, and many Texas try to cross into Mexico and onto the United States. Guatemala has abundant mineral resources such as Uranium, copper ore, cold silver, nickel, sand, gravel and petroleum (Cabrera & Haase, 2018).
Uganda is located in east Africa. It is border to the east by the Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the south-west by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania, Uganda possesses weather conditions highly favorable to agriculture. Uganda is a pearl of Africa, Uganda has over 100 districts but Kampala (the African city that never sleeps) is the capital city. Kampala is located in the Central region and can be reach by/with all means of transport (Kagoda, 2016).
Both countries are attract tourist, but little dangerous, people need to exercise some measures before visiting both countries. Uganda and Guatemala is a beautiful country with a rich culture and the people are very nice. Guatemala is a complicated country due to the country’s political instability and its economic history, and it made Guatemala poor. There are areas in Guatemala that are a lot safer than...
