Defining Hate Crimes
The criminal offenses, which are known as Hate crimes, happen to operate motivated by any kind of prejudice or bias towards any particular group of people.It is, therefore, to take into consideration the hate crime and therefore this offense must strive to meet two criteria. Firstly, the act must be functional in constituting something that will be held a kind of offense under criminal law. However, the second must involve that act which is operated by any kind of bias. Therefore, it can be said the bias motivations are preconceived in accordance with the negative opinions (Herek, 2017). There remain certain stereotypical assumptions as well as intolerance concerning that of hatred which is directed towards any kind of particular group that mutually shares a particular characteristic, these can be such in terms of ethnicity, race, religion, language, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, or any kind of characteristic. Disabled People are also held to be at times victims of hate crimes.
Matthew Shepard, a student at the University of Wyoming met a tragic death due to the vicious attack that was led by two bigots who were reportedly anti-gay. Shepherd had gone to a gay bar which goes by the name of The Fireside Lounge, he was dragged mercilessly to the parking lot, where he was brutally tortured and killed. This incident is a resultant action of a hate crime because he was killed because of his sexual orientation. This homophobia is something that bigots do not seem to relate with, which is lethally dire relating to the grotesquely structured conception and minds they seem to harbor (Sikk & Meyer, 2019). These lads believe that because of the rule that seems to strive in Wyoming might have helped them in getting jobs if they could get rid of the gay guy. The rule is that employers are not willing to give jobs to gay people.
The Charleston church shooting involves a situation that involves a young individual called Dylann Roof who shot nine people and attempted to kill two others in the basement of The Charleston Church in the year 2015. He was present there amidst a dozen people who were part of a Bible study group, he waited for one hour and opened fire at their final prayer. This is regarded as a hate crime because of the fact that this was a clear motivating violence perpetuated by racist dominance (Brown & Matusitz, 2019).
